Nose piercing - tell me honestly

I have rosacea and even when it's a good day it's very red on my nose, people stare and I'm constantly getting the 'Rudolph/sunburn/alcoholic' comments.

I really fancy a small stud in my nose but I'm torn, part of me thinks it will draw even more attention to a 'problem' area, but on the other hand, people stare anyway so I sometimes think I should just do it anyway.

So tell me honestly, would you?

Lol @ clinging to the trendiness of youth.. I've had mine for 25 years. I was trendy neither in my youth or now, I just like having a nostril piercing.

As for getting stares and funny looks, can't say I've ever noticed that happening. I live in a small market town in the arse end of nowhere, hardly an achingly trendy place, and loads of women have them. They're pretty mainstream tbh.

OP, I'd get it done and see how you get on with it. If you decide you're not keen, take it out, you'd be left with a tiny pinprick scar that's really not noticeable at all.

Another 42 year old trying to hard here Grin. I'm old enough to know that if I want something nobody else's opinion counts. Go for it and be proud.

colditz · 07/12/2018 23:21

All those shrieking that "Nobody else's opinion counts!!!!!" and "I don't give a shiny shit what anyone else thinks of me!!!!!" are not taking the OP's feelings into consideration. Op asked people to tell her honestly, and people are telling her honestly.

Personally, OP, I wouldn't have any part of my face pierced if I was trying to not draw attention to a part of my face.

Secondly, having facial piercings puts your CV in the bin for many professional or customer facing roles. If you already have your career under control and it's fine for you to have a facial piercing, then fine, but otherwise, just don't. They don't scream "I'm super employable and have fantastic impulse control!"

I'm currently a community dementia care nurse but am hoping to start training to go into peads next year, does that have an effect?

I had a face full of metal as a teenager but back then my skin was a creamy, English Rose with not a blemish on it.

I'm not so worried about drawing attention as I already have attention to my red nose year round anyway, no medication had worked, one makes it slightly less red on some days but it's not a mass of sore, open scabs anymore.

I'm hoping to have a draith piercing to see if it eases my headaches and I have 2 sets of studs in each ear anyway, all my piercings have always been tiny studs, I've never had big rings or spike or anything.

I appreciate all the opinions though, I'll have a think about it. Thank you.

Op try the Avene range for rosacea. Works wonders for me.

ManicLoki · 08/12/2018 11:05

CV in the bin? For some roles maybe, but certainly not all. I've managed to hold down a career with mine. Once it heals you can take it out for work if need be.

It's not permanent. If you decide you don't like it, feel it attracts unwanted attention or any future employer doesn't allow it, just take it out.

NicoAndTheNiners · 08/12/2018 11:14

If you're thinking of paed nurse training be aware many nhs trusts won't allow you to have a piercing in place, not even a clear one.

Cocolepew · 08/12/2018 12:44

I have a daith piercing and its worked really well controlling my migraines.

EdWinchester · 08/12/2018 12:48

I don’t think it will draw attention to your rosacea.

I love nose piercings, especially when they’re tiny.
