Is the quality good? Does anyone have a discount code? Thanks

I'm replying because you haven't had any replies and unhelpfully, I've never bought Whistles knitwear. I will say this though: I generally think you get what you pay for with the exception of knitwear. The more I've paid for knitwear ( and I'm talking Whistles/ Jigsaw type prices) the more quickly it's worn out.

Jojoanna · 07/12/2018 06:58

I found that it bobbled very quickly

snowgal · 07/12/2018 07:23

I've only had one jumper from Whistles, I found it quickly became misshapen and I've hardly worn it. I really rate Toast knitwear for quality.

Floisme · 07/12/2018 09:19

I really like the cut of Whistles and the way their clothes hang but the quality is poor. The last jumper I bought from them started bobbling after one wash. I have 10 year old jumpers from H&M that have worn better.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 07/12/2018 09:21

Agree that it's poor quality. The last jumper I bought from there got a hole in after its second wash.

championquartz · 07/12/2018 15:56

Agree with others. Love the cut, but the quality is meh.

FashionFiend · 07/12/2018 16:14

Thanks everyone! Darn really like the shape of this jumper but won't buy now after hearing how poor the quality is. www.johnlewis.com/whistles-funnel-neck-woollen-jumper-grey-marl/p3809445

I tried some on recently and I really liked the way it hung, but as I didn't buy I can't testify to how it washes etc.

Sadik · 07/12/2018 16:53

Haven't tried Whistles, but I'm not sure I'd agree onlyconnect about quality not paying with knitwear. I've got two more expensive jumpers (a winter one from the Brora sale and a lighter spring/autumn one from Finisterre clothing), both have been worn and worn and still look good. The latter has started after 4 or so years to fray a little at the edges but still hangs well.

FashionFiend · 07/12/2018 18:52

Had a look at the Toast website and quite a few reviews about jumpers bobbling/piling. I'd want a jumper to last for years at the prices they charge. They also put a piece in each knitwear product description about the wool possibly pilling due it's soft nature. I know they're just covering themselves but it put me off buying.

That jumper is gorgeous - right up my street, expensive though. Wonder when the sale will start Grin
I second TOAST jumpers, I love them. Buy from eBay.

Anlaf · 07/12/2018 19:19

I've got loads of Whistles knitwear (wot I buy in the sale as I'm a cheapskate). I agree with their blurb that it's often v soft wool and will form biggish pills, but I got a wool comb with the last one I bought and it makes it look great again.

Also one jumper went at the seam and as they couldn't swap it, they sewed it back together for me.

I mean I am not the person to dissuade you from buying that jumper.

Agree Toast is excellent quality.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 07/12/2018 20:29

About 50% of my knitwear is Whistles - always bought with a code or on sale - and I have no issues with it not wearing or washing well, although I am clearly in the minority! Our machine has a fancy Woolmark Approved (or similar) cycle, and I just stick it through on that, then dry either on the line or clotheshorse depending on the weather.

ViserionTheDragon · 07/12/2018 20:33

Long time buyer of Whistles here. I have found that the quality has gone down over the years, but with the jumper you like, I can see it's 100% merino wool, which is a ver tough, long-lasting fabric. I think you'll be fine with this jumper.

FashionFiend · 07/12/2018 21:23

Awh thanks didn't even check to see what type of wool it was. Mizu i was thinking the sale will start soon. Might hold off on buying for a bit. Thanks for the info everyone, mumsnet folk are always so helpful!

I have a couple of John Smedley jumpers that I bought second hand and I really rate them. They wear well, wash well and, while they’re not particularly out there style wise, I think they manage to straddle classic and modern quite well. I’ve not bought new but I think the prices are on a par with Toast. Made in the UK too.

Clionba · 08/12/2018 08:54

I agree with Floisme, the quality of John Smedley knitwear is excellent. The colours are good, too. I'd rate it better than Whistles and Jigsaw. Perhaps on a par with Pure or Brora.

TSSDNCOP · 08/12/2018 15:52

I love Whistles but find their knit poor and prone to shrinkage. Could just be me. Try Uniqlo, better price and quality imo.

expatmigrant · 08/12/2018 16:21

I have last years version of that jumper. Not impressed with the quality here either.

Nettletheelf · 09/12/2018 20:33

Whistles knitwear: ambitiously priced, crap quality. I’ve learned my lesson after buying a couple of duds that bobbled badly in no time flat and started looking a bit shabby.

The £20 ASOS cotton sweater still looks great.

FashionFiend · 09/12/2018 23:14

Whistles should take note of this thread! I ended up buying from Cos in the end, online because I find the customer service in the Dublin store awful.

OP - I received a 48hr sale preview email from Whistles this morn and the jumper is reduced to £75. Not sure if you have the sale preview but if not wait 2 days and it’ll be much cheaper if you still want to buy.

FashionFiend · 10/12/2018 09:33

Thanks! Just got the sale email! Ooh tempted to buy it now even though i got the Cos one.
