Fed up with spending lots on different mascaras that you know just won’t work for you on first use so am thinking of getting these done.

Any down-sides to them, other than cost? How long do they last?

Also, am mid-forties- am I a bit old for them?

I'm 40, had them done for the first time back in April. They lasted about two and a half weeks , then I had in fills which lasted another 3 weeks before having them taken off. They looked pretty patchy towards the end. You have to look after them though, brush them as they can go out of shape . They looked fab though!

Go Russian and you won't look back! Mine
are 80 quid for the first go then 40 for infills every 4-5 weeks. Can't think of any drawbacks other than cost. Of course you are not too old Grin

From experience about a week then they start going AWOL. If you wear eyeliner they're tricky to navigate. I've got classic lashes because I'm late 40s & didn't want very obviously full & long ones as I look a bit drag queen (nothing against that but it doesn't suit me) and I can't wear my glasses with them.

I find it uncomfortable when they are doing them (not painful). I loved mine but they took a lot of looking after.

Santasushi · 03/12/2018 21:58

Oh I’m 40’s too. Really made my face fresh!

spugzbunny · 03/12/2018 22:01

I found they itches like mad as they started to come out after about 2 weeks. I did have them done on the cheap though so it could be that!

Have you tried a tint and perm? I'm considering that next!

If done wrong they can damage your own lashes. I found them a bit itchy and a little unkempt after 1 week but the first week they looked great. It’s a very expensive ‘look’. I would have them for a special occasion only but to be honest I prefer the false glued eyelashes

Thanks for responses. I’m still keen to try but might wait until after Christmas in case I get an allergic reaction or something

I've been getting them for about a year now.

Pros are they look great and I don't need to wear mascara anymore. I feel great in them and look better. I also find the process of getting them really relaxing.

Cons are they have killed my natural lashes and I need refills every 2 - 3 weeks which is expensive. Also a couple of times the woman has gone too heavy and I've felt like a drag queen. Also now I know how good they look it's impossible to stop.

On balance I don't know if I'd do it again.

I find they are lovely for a special occasion but if I keep them on for more than a few days my own lashes underneath are all stubby and sparse and then I have to grow them back for several weeks.

sugarbum · 04/12/2018 09:10

I had them nearly two weeks ago. I'm 44
Pro: they look brilliant. Everyone has commented on how nice they look. I never really wear makeup so they open up my eyes (my natural lashes are stubby)
Con: they are doing my head in. They are itchy and whilst I can't actually 'feel' them on my eyelids, I know they are there all the time. I just want to rub my eyes! They are now uneven as more have dropped off my left eye than my right.

I'm a bit gutted because they look so good but I just don't think I can bear having them done again.

You do have to have a patch test done. Mine was fine, but my eyes still stung a bit for the day after I had them done. I had no swelling though.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 04/12/2018 09:18

I think it really depends who you go to. The first time I had them done they lasted about a week and I found them annoying and itchy. Had them taken off and went back to mascara.

Then tried a new lady and had the Russian ones. They last so much better. Every 3 weeks I have them re done and sometimes hardly any are missing. I don't really look after them. Give them a quick brush sometimes. Love them and couldn't be without them now.

Infact last year I had to have them removed for an operation and I hated myself without them. First time in 2 years I'd had no eyelashes. Soon as I was out of hospital they went straight back on.

The cost of maintaining them really mounts up. I find mine last a couple of weeks. I only have them done before holidays so that I don't need to wear as much make up.

emma6776 · 04/12/2018 20:01

I found them a faff. I now get my lashes lifted and dyed and they look amazing. So much cheaper too. Lasts for about 9 weeks @ £30 a time.

Klobuchar · 04/12/2018 21:22

Going to try lifting and dyeing, I think. The extensions sound a bit high maintenance for me, but I do agree they can look really good. Thanks all.
