Cold people, talk to me about layering

I’m currently wearing three layers of petrochemical extracts for warmth and this has to stop! Uniqlo sure keeps me warm but I need to step away from the unnatural fibres. I need every day base layers for entirely non-performance activity like desk jockeying which are seriously warm, can be hidden easily under real clothes, aren’t scratch AND will wash in a machine easily. Your bamboo / merino recommendations gratefully received!

Have you had your thyroid checked?
I am a cold person no longer!

I have ordered landsend silk, but talk to me about your thyroid... my mum had thyroid issues - wonder if she passed it on? I just assumed it’s because I’m small and have a desk job therefore not much moving about. I know I wouldn’t have survived the Middle Ages in England- Frozen to the Thames like the boat lady in the film of Orlando

I think the difference between being normally cold and hypothyroid cold is that the latter is out of proportion, colder than everyone else in the room when it isn't really that cold. Before meds I would often feel so cold I'd be nauseated by it. Is your body temp usually a bit low?
If you have a blood test be sure to get a copy of the results.

Snog · 12/12/2018 22:25

I was certainly never nauseated by cold but did feel the cold more than average.

Thyroid is v under diagnosed so although blood tests with your GP are a starting point many results miss problems because NHS testing does not test all the different tests that are required for proper diagnosis.

There are lots of thyroid symptoms other than feeling cold - check out the thyroid uk website for more info.

I second the TUK recommendation. They helped me get well.

If you buy merino, I’d recommend buying a mix that has at least a small percentage of synthetic fibre in it. The clothes moths don’t like it! I have lost most of my pure wool clothes to the munchy little critters Sad They’re apparently on the rise.
