hair is fried - help

stiltonontoast · 03/12/2018 11:13

So, a high end salon in my town completely fried my hair (highlights on an already light base) I got my money refunded but now I am left with very tangly, unmanageable and fragile hair and it’s really getting me down.

It’s a long bob and I am very hesitant to go any shorter. Can anyone recommend any miracle products?

I’ve tried - Olaplex no.3, Philip Kingsley elasticiser, Redken anti snap. I also use tigi bed head restoration shampoo and conditioner and only wash it 1/2 times a week.

Pics attached.

Get some Olaplex?

pattypatta · 03/12/2018 11:55

Wow she has really fried your hair.
I hope the coconut oil /redken starts making a difference to it.
My friend said the frizz ease miraculous recovery is good too.

PlateOfBiscuits · 03/12/2018 12:12

Could you go to a (different) hairdresser and get Olaplex 1&2 applied?

stiltonontoast · 03/12/2018 12:37

I could @PlateOfBiscuits but I've really lost faith in hairdressers for good now, so its my last resort at the moment.

I'd rather try some things I could do at home.

You can get some decent hair oils (ogx coconut or argan oil) and surprisingly elvive full restore treatment or the miracle oils treatment are really good - I insisted my hairdresser fry my hair going from a natural dark brown to white with a lavender toner and they are the only things that work.
You could try smartbond treatment (can buy the at home stuff on Amazon) but the ones listed above work just as well and are a fraction of the cost. I'm dark again now but still have the damage and don't want to cut my hair so I use the elvive as a treatment through the mid lengths to ends each time I wash it.

llangennith · 03/12/2018 13:02

Coconut oil worked on my frizz. (I had to stop using it as the smell made me wheeze.)

starfleet · 03/12/2018 13:10

Charles Worthington Grow Strong range - Shampoo, Conditioner and a mask that you put on after conditioning that protects the hair.

I have hair that is prone to breaking, I've tried so many products but have found this stuff is really good and not hugely expensive.

stiltonontoast · 03/12/2018 14:34

Thanks for the suggestions! Gonna google them all now.

Get Olaplex 2 NOT Olaplex 3 and apply this a couple of times a week. I do it on a sunday morning and leave it all day before washing out before bed.

Olaplex 3 is weaker than 2.

Then use full silicone products for a bit e.g. pantene.

Oh, how come?

www.superdrug.com/Hair/Hair-Treatments/Conditioning-Treatments/L%27Oreal-Elvive-Extraordinary-Oil-Coconut-Hair-Mask-300ml/p/741368?gclid=Cj0KCQiAxZPgBRCmARIsAOrTHSaByco9q3xO4mPlJNQ5dDF2oxOeSPbSYwXuRqOC-CO47hpffT06iXAaAuC2EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Try this hair mask. My hair is bleached and coloured and most conditioners are shit, even the really expensive ones.

This one is really lovely and its not even expensive.

stiltonontoast · 03/12/2018 14:45

Thanks very much @Branleuse - another vote for the elvive range! going to have to pick this up for sure.

Oh, how come

Because whilst sulphates, silicone etc can interfere with treatments such as keratin treatments and so have a reputation for being the baddies of the hair care world, a bit of silicone in your fried hair will (IME) help it feel more manageable.

But my main recommendation is olaplex 2

Branleuse · 03/12/2018 15:20

I dont get all the silicone hate either. It improves look and feel of damaged hair.

Notreallyhappy · 03/12/2018 17:49

Redken colour shampoo & mask either the bright pink or brown bottle

emma6776 · 03/12/2018 21:05

My hair is/was similarly fried-I highly recommend the following: a Olaplex ripoff called Pureplex (buy from Superdrug), Charles Worthington overnight conditioner, Moroccan Oil and a double dose of Boots Hair, Skin and Nails supplement.

SparklingSaskia · 03/12/2018 22:38

Be patient, use olaplex and other products, invest in a silk turban or pillow for sleeping, and get your hair cut as short as you can bare. You might actually like the shorter hair, you’ll never know.

Branleuse · 03/12/2018 23:57

I dont think it looks bad tbh. Thats just life with bleached hair. You just need to use a lot of good conditioner. I personally wouldnt cut it off unless that was something you already wanted to do.

DianaT1969 · 04/12/2018 04:53

My hairdresser strongly recomends hair masks for dehydrated hair. Plastic cap over and apply heat with hairdryer for 20 mins.

KringleBells · 04/12/2018 05:12

Castor oil soak is really good for this. Saved the bottom third of my hair after an over enthusiastic ombré.

Apply oil to freshly washed (but not conditioned) hair that has been towel dried til damp, Leave on for three hours, with hair wrapped in a towel. Wash and condition (you might need to wash twice). You can also do a mix of castor oil and jojoba if you find castor oil a bit sticky (gently warming it to thin it also works).

A leave-in conditioner spray with hyaluronic acid e.g. Urtekram Rose or Nordic Berries will also help your hair hold onto moisture.

Also second the Olaplex 1&2. Either at a hairdresser or buy them yourself off eBay and do it at home.

TroyKing · 04/12/2018 07:09

Percy & Reed Perfectly Perfecting Wonder Treatment Oil+

Smells nice too.

stiltonontoast · 04/12/2018 09:22

Right, thanks guys! I did a soak in coconut oil last night and left on for 5 hours and it already feels so much better.

I realised I was doing something that probably wasn't helping as well - sometimes I wash my hair in the bath so rinse by laying down in the water, but I guess that way the products aren't really leaving my hair. whoops.

Olive oil works better than coconut oil for me. Vo5 hot oil is the best, it’s just come back in the shops, I had been buying it on amazon at great cost!

Beacauseisaidso · 04/12/2018 19:21

Sorry to hi jack. What is this olaplex you speak of and how do you use it? Can you use at home?

NoSpend19 · 04/12/2018 19:23

Olaplaex 3 is designed to be taken away and used at home after olaplaex 1 and 2 being used in salon. It is a diluted version of olaplaex 2.

But you can buy big bottles of olaplaex 2 on amazon and use them at home too.

Its a bonding solution and works to strengthen hair. You apply prior to washing.
