Has anyone had a facelift

Aroundtheworldandback · 01/12/2018 00:07

I had my turkey neck and brow lift done 10 days ago and in the pre-op consultation, my surgeon minimised the full extent of the pain I’d be in afterwards and the length of time.

I am in agony on the strongest painkillers and half my forehead has no feeling, which he says is unlucky but worst case scenario will be back 3 months post op. I know it’s early days but when does the pain stop, does anyone know?

Hi OP, didn't want to read and run. That sounds so painful and scary, I hope you make a very speedy recovery, are you at home now ?
Did you try the non surgical route first ? Can I ask how old you are ?

Aroundtheworldandback · 01/12/2018 21:03

Thank you Sugarpiehoneyeye. Unfortunately there isn’t really an effective non surgical route for loose sagging jowelsSad. I’m early 50’s.

Feeling slightly better today and ventured out, but half my forehead is still dead which is very scary!

There must be someone who'll admit to a facelift !
I'm considering some fillers, I want my nice face back 😂 I'm a similar age to you.
Ten days isn't that long really, there's a good chance of you regaining feeling. In another 10 day, you'll look beautiful ! 💐🍾

LadyLapsang · 01/12/2018 22:21

I haven't had anything done, but can I ask you how much it cost?

PersonaNonGarter · 02/12/2018 07:54

It will be worth it.

I watched a programme about facelifts and most of the women cried for weeks afterwards then were suddenly thrilled with it.

princesstiasmum · 02/12/2018 12:56

I had one quite a long time ago now, under local anaesthetic,it wasnt painful at all, just very uncomfotable and tight feeling, the numbness does last quite a while, but will wear off eventually, didnt have forehead [browlift ]though, but was numb around ears, and in hairline
I would do it again ,its so worth it,
It will give you any confidence you have lost, back.

Aroundtheworldandback · 02/12/2018 17:02

Thank you all so much for making me feel better. I can only raise one eyebrowGrin
However pleased I will be I can honestly say I will never put myself through this again. Apparently it was only a minor “refresh”. I’ve had major surgery before but never the pain and discomfort of this. My surgeon wasn’t very forthcoming with warning me about it.

LadyLapsang I think the face, brow lift and hospital stay was around £15k. My friends have never known a flu episode go on this long.. I’ll be in my 60’s when it goes pear shaped but with any luck my eyesight won’t be so good...

princesstiasmum · 02/12/2018 18:06

Aroundthe world that is a lot of money for a refresh,]what does that mean exactly]
Do you mean to say it has gone wrong? or not as good as it should be?
I have never known a facelify to cause that much pain, although i have heard of them going wrong, why can youonly lift one eye
I am so sorry you are having so much pain,
Where did you have it done? i know you cant say in public, but was it a well known surgeon, and clinic
Have you not had your stitches or staples out yet, sometimes staples are used as well as or instead of stitches
I can honestly say mine was not painful as such, and definitely nothing like you are experiencing
My stitches came out a week later, and because i didnt have a GA i didnt have much bruising either
I hope you are feeling better soon, and feel it is worth it in the end

princesstiasmum · 02/12/2018 18:11

I wouldnt worry about the numbness, it WILL wear off, but mine lasted more than 3 months while getting less all the time
Your surgeon shouldnt have minimised it though, he doesnt sound very have a good bedside manner [flowers ] for you

thefirstmrsdewinter · 02/12/2018 18:55

My mum had a full fl a few years ago. The only time she was in real pain was about 16hrs after the end of her surgery. The drains were causing her some discomfort and she was refusing to take the pain relief they sent her home with. Once the drains were out she felt much better (and didn't refuse the painkillers lol).
She had some numbness after but soon the nerves knit together and you can feel what she called 'zapping' where they're healing - not pain as such but like little shocks.
I wonder if you're very swollen? Swelling can be painful and/or numb-feeling. Are you applying ice (gently obvs)? That was helpful for my mum. She also had a massage for lymphatic drainage which helped with swelling (but that was down the road a bit, if you're still in pain and healing it will be too soon).

Loonoon · 02/12/2018 20:02

You are brave to do this. I had a thread lift recently, so nothing like as invasive or lengthy a procedure you’ve been through but even that took a few weeks to feel back to normal. Don’t underestimate just how big an operation it is, and how many nerves there are involved

Take it easy. Rest, take the painkillets and hopefully by Christmas you’ll be delighted with yourself.

Disabrie22 · 02/12/2018 22:16

Liz Jones wrote an article about her’s in the daily mail - she said it was agony.

Aroundtheworldandback · 02/12/2018 22:17

princesstiasmum by ‘refresh’ the surgeon was referring to an early intervention facelift; some people would have waited 5 or so years. I am speechless you had this under local! I am now pain free. Numbness is the norm apparently and the reason I can only raise one eyebrow is that the right part of my forehead is numb. He is a well known surgeon in London.

thefirstmrsdewinter I am SO grateful you told me about your mum’s “zapping”- this is what I am feeling now in the numb areas but I didn’t know what it was!!

Loonoon thank you- for the first time today I looked in the mirror and felt positive. I have never been particularly vain but my sagging jawline went almost overnight on turning 50, and I went from just looking my age to my jawline looking 20 years older than the rest of me- I don’t know why this happened.
Thanks all so much for your comments and advice x

Aroundthe world i had mine done just at 50, and some surgeons still do it under local, much cheaper too,
I would love a mini facelift and even made enquiries, but maybe too old to bother now,
It is strange how these things suddenly happen isnt it
I seem to have got older by about 5 years in 3,i think the older you get the quicker you age ,if you see what i mean

princesstiasmum · 02/12/2018 22:47

By the way, i could feel pushing and pulling and prodding, but no pain, and i didnt even feel the injections numbing my face, also came home same day, by car

Aroundtheworldandback · 02/12/2018 23:00

Princesstiasmum do you mind me asking roughly how long yours lasted?
I didn’t mind the anaesthetic, I would have had the numbness under local too as the same nerves are affected either way

OP posts:
princesstiasmum · 03/12/2018 00:35

Well cant remember exactly when i noticed a big difference, but i still looked a lot younger than i was allowing of course for natural ageing,, and my face is still quite firm and im early 70s now, but i have looked after my skin, and i dont have too much jowl even now, more a few wrinkles, crows feet etc, but no one thinks im the age i am even now, more in 60s

princesstiasmum · 03/12/2018 01:16

Oh forgot about the neck, that is what is the worst now.definitely turkey neck.that's what I would like to get rid of Grin

Aroundtheworldandback · 03/12/2018 14:22

I wanted my turkey done for XmasGrin. You sound amazing for your age. So much is hereditary I’m sure. When I’m 70 I’ll just be happy to be healthy no more of this nonsense.

OP posts:
princesstiasmum · 03/12/2018 21:45

Aroundthe world thank you, i am blessed with good health, thank goodness, but it doesnt stop me looking and thinking i would like to look as good as i feel,
Good genes i think, my mum and grandmother both lived to mid 90s
And neither of them were on any medication, as im not either,
My only real exercise is walking the dog
