Foot Care Routine

My feet have turned into trolls hooves. I've been using a foot file and coconut oil at bedtime but it isn't cutting the mustard.

I have cracked heels so probably need to get some kind of cream for that. But I'd like some kind of general moisturiser to use once it twice a week too.

What's your foot care routine? The cheaper the better!

A Newton chiropody sponge (very cheap off amazon)soak feet in soapy water first, use the sponge. Then ideally something like flexitol with cotton socks over night.

I have a scalpel you buy blades as well it’s very sharp, The black stone (is that the Newton?) and some heels cream from Poundland which is very good. I also put hand cream on the not heels part.

My feet seem to grow hard skin overnight

Flexitol 25% urea heel balm. The end.

It will solve your cracked heels in under a week and all your trolls hooves will also disappear never to return. It's a miracle.

Thank you all!

Right, I've ordered a newton sponge, been out and got some heel balm and some foot cream too. Looking forward to sorting them out! Thanks!

Soak in a hot bath for 15 mins then a footner or Amazon rated equivalent. Prepare to shed skin like a snake. Then keep on top of things with scrubs etc or buy another footner in 6 months time....

bringbackthestripes · 01/12/2018 14:48

Foot file only really works after a soak in the bath I feel. Once feet are dry but still warm from the soak I give them a good file then slather O’Keeffe’s healthy feet on.

I only need to file once a week & now have lovely soft heels.

You will only a get good finish from a foot care professional, you can spend a load of money on diy stuff, but the finish will still be rubbish compared to a professional job. After a good amount of proper bladework, not diy blunted blades from boots, you then get a good base on which to begin using a 25% urea heel balm. If you invest in this every three- four months and look after them yourself in between you won't look back! Footner gets about a third of the actual calluses depth off and putting creams onto dead skin is just a waste of money.

myidentitymycrisis · 01/12/2018 16:07

true. I had a good professional going over once. But the service closed.
who can tell me what the person who provides this foot scraping is called?

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/12/2018 21:30

Podiatrist here (NHS)

Cream once or twice a week will do Diddly Squat.

Get yourself a double sided file and use it dry . They dont work so well on wet or soaked skin it goes like rubber . You need to keep a check on how much you are removing , you don't want to make your feet tender through over doing it.

So - dry feet . Put your foot over the bath or toilet or put paper on the floor. Use long firm swipes in one direction , start with the abrasive side and finish with the smooth.
Aim to file every other day.
Then you soak or wash them.

Use cream - something with Urea (25%-40%) on damp skin daily. Really rub it in, every night , then a pair of old cotton socks (the heat helps it absorb and stops it getting on your sheets)

Take a before photo Grin

It will take up to 28 days to improve but will likely be quicker.

If you do want to start with a treatment then look through your Yellow Pages equivilant , you need an HCP Registered .

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/12/2018 21:35

And - prevention being better than cure here :

In winter shoes pop a thin cushioning insole in (even if its just in the heel part)
And in Summer - backless sandles are the enemy . There's always a ridge where the heel edge sits.

I spent my time on escalators looking at the heels of the person in front of me. And no I don't shriek at them "FFS have you SEEN your heels Missus" ...................... but I think it Wink

My feet are ok but the nails are a mess (runner). I don't think it's a fungal thing. It was but that's been treated, but they still grow away from the nail bed and slightly yellowed (but no longer thickened). Any tips?

Madbengalmum · 02/12/2018 15:47

Myidentity, you could use a foot health professional, Chiropodist or a Podiatrist. Any of those can safely remove callus build up for you.

Bestseller, this will probably continue as many runners feet and nails suffer from trauma, which can reveal itself through a thickening of the nails or nails growing away from the nail bed. Just make sure the shoes are not too big/small for you and keep your nails a sensible length not too long or too short, as problems can arise from both.

mrsoutnumbered · 02/12/2018 19:32

Well I've only been using the Poundland heel balm for two days and can already see and feel a noticeable difference!
