Futuristic clothes for my mum?

This sounds odd I know, but hopefully only because I don't know the right words to describe what i'm looking for - i'm hoping some of the knowledgeable S&B people out there can help ...

My mum is 70, 5"1 and slim and active. She often wears a tunic and jeans and looks great in that as it suits her petite frame. I noticed that one of her favourite tops is a thin-fabric hoody which looks quite futuristic/Japanese in design, almost like something manga. It's hard to describe, and written down it sounds like something that would only suit a 15 year old but it looks really good on her. I'd like to get her some more similar things for a christmas present. Can anyone think of what/where I should be searching for?

Uniqlo? Cos? Arket?

Would you be able to sneak a look at the label so we could find out where it's from and maybe get a bit more of an idea?

I was going to suggest Cos, or Kin by John Lewis. Dont judge them by the appearance on the model though - you can never tell until you see them in the flesh. Something like this?

Also comes in red and black.

And the silhouette of this one is fab:

This is probably way over budget and I only know one stockist but is it the kind of thing you mean? Rundholz This website has some of their stuff reduced although still spendy: walkers.style/rundholz?p=all

At the other end of the price scale, do H&M still have a kind of gothy/grungy/kind of manga section?

Or as others have already said, Cos - although she probably needs to visit a real store, or Kin at John Lewis. Some Toast and Me and Em also have interesting silhouettes - and good sales.

If you have a £££ budget look at Issey Miyake

Mercurial123 · 30/11/2018 14:30

Another vote for Issey Miyake, I just got a new Pleats Please dress for a reasonable price it was still expensive but 50% less than what it costs at Matches.

I was going to make exactly the same suggestions as everyone on this thread!

I'm about the same height and I hope I'm looking as good in my 70s. One thing to bear in mind is that Cos can initially look off putting for little people but just look past the few gigantic black tent dresses and you'll find lots of nice things.

Going in the other direction in both price and direction- Decathlon. I have bought several pieces from Decathlon boys. Especially a beautiful all cotton thin hooded sweatshirt and long sleeved skinny fit tops!

If she is around 5 foot and petite then I doubt she is wearing anything from Cos or Kiin. I'm just under 5 foot and those clothes swamp me.

Rainatnight · 01/12/2018 00:39

As I said upthread, Cos can be great for shorties, you just have to know what you're looking for. Around 50% of my wardrobe is Cos.

I've been buying from Aakasha for a few years, mostly from their Etsy shop but they also have a website. Great service, unique design and good quality / fit. I also like Arya Sense, which has great draping and asymmetry. I'm not sure if this is exactly what you're looking for but both offer unusual, futuristic pieces that you won't see anywhere else.
