Can anyone recommend stylish shoes for troll feet?
Normally stylish, tall/quite slim, but clodhopping great trotters (size 8 EE width and high instep) mean I'm stuck in Birkenstocks all summer and elastic boots DD calls diving boots all winter Sad.
Hotters and Widefitshoes a bit grannyish. My style more FlyLondon or Aerosoles (but they don't sell in my size/foot shape). Can't even find slippers except mens!
Help?

What's the event? Is it for a party or more casual wear?

Switcherpoo · 30/11/2018 11:47

I know you've said you don't want granny shoes. Wider fit shoes have 100's of styles, but the don't invest enough in marketing or decent photos. A lot of the shoes and boots look much better in real life.

Here are my best Boots, Shoes and Slipper recommendations. The slippers are the same style in different fabrics. And I don't work for them, just know a lot about wide feet and shoes!

Watching with interest as dd, now 20, was off the H scale as a child and whilst only a size 3.5 has huge probs finding shoes.

OhTheRoses · 30/11/2018 11:52

Nice shoes!

Most shops that I've been in recently have wide-fit ranges; often I find there are more options in that range than "normal" ones. I don't have links, but New Look, Debenhams, and Matalan all had extensive ranges last time I looked. I think Clarks always have some good options too.

OhTheRoses · 30/11/2018 12:22

The problem when the foot is very wide is that often you have to go up a size for the width and anything dainty like a court or ballerina then slips. Choice becomes limited if a strap is required because they are so often frumpy. Hotter had a quite funky strap court a few years ago but it was discontinued. DD managed to get a relatively feminine black suede heel with a strap across this year to replace it.

New Look shoes are hard and aren't the right shape for dd.

Switcherpoo · 30/11/2018 12:34

@OhTheRoses you should never go up a size to get the width. Especially someone under 25. The bones in the foot haven't fully formed until then. A shoe that is too long slips and feet can slide in them. This causes you to scrunch your toes every time you move, to hold on to the Shoe.

Just accept your wide feet and find a style that suits you in the correct width fitting. Dainty pointy shoes cause bunions and other foot problems. There are so many great wide fit options, don't ruin your feet and give yourself problems later in life.

I regularly dress ladies from age 45 to 95 and we start with the shoes. It shouldn't be that way. When one of my ladies knows what outfit she wants, I can get the right shoes. But I'm looking at bunions, hammer toe, corns, dead toenails etc every day and see the damage that is done. look after your feet today, they will look after you tomorrow!!

I agree with you switcherpoo show me shoes a 20 year old doesn't weep over and I'll buy them for dd. Who mostly lives in trainers and boots and flip flops feom necessity.

Are those spotty shoes for grown ups??

ThatsNotMyToddler · 30/11/2018 14:59

How about looking here OP www.shoesofprey.com/

  • looks like you can design your own shoes in your size. Not cheap but possibly worth it for shoes that actually fit.
Alternatively consider having shoes custom made by a cobbler - not sure where you’d find such a person but I believe once they’ve done the first measurements/made your mould then subsequent pairs of shoes are very reasonable. I remember an art teacher of mine at school had shoes to match every one of his (very colourful) suits
LucheroTena · 30/11/2018 15:03

I’ve got quite wide size 7 feet. I wear timberlands (not the really hard type, they do a soft suede boot) and uggs in winter, vans in summer. Vans are pretty unisex so you can get men’s. Dr Martens also come wide.

LucheroTena · 30/11/2018 15:04

Christ, those slippers will be alright when op checks into a nursing home. Sorry switch.

Switcherpoo · 30/11/2018 15:51

@justtryingtodoitright the spotty ones are slippers

@IheartNiles there not to everyone's taste.

Sorry sorry sorry everyone for disappearing on my own thread! I've had a family crisis to contend with and not been on mumsnet for a while. Thank you for suggestions! I've found a pair of boots - Ecco Bella 2 zip ankle boots - which fit great in terms of length, width, instep and comfort, and look stylish (like Fly and Aerosoles, round toe, low heel, good leather, great with skinny jeans).
Also love Harlinger felt clogs for slippers, but out of my price range for now.
Thank you again for suggestions, sorry for crap response time Blush
