My hair is too thin and only shoulder length...

... because of which I can't have a lot of different hairstyles as thin hair doesn't look good :(
Shoulder length hair is not my problem.
It is the fact that it is too thin because of which when I tie my hair in a bun or a ponytail, I look really really old- like a grandma.
:(
Feeling sad.
I can leave my hair open-minded this is the only hairstyle that looks good on me. But, even this sometimes it just looks thin and looks weird and ugly.
What should I do. Been like this for over 10 years.
Feeling really depressed about it.

I meant to say - I can leave my hair open.
Not open-minded, lol...typo.
Is it not possible to edit your post?

My hair is exactly the same, caused by steroids for my asthma.

I also have very thin (mousy brown) shoulder-length hair, OP. I could spend ages putting loads of product on it, blow-drying it etc or use a curling wand etc. But do you know what? It's just hair. Life is too short. I blast it upside down with a hairdryer or tie it back. Stuff it! Having great hair does not make you a great person.

I totally sympathise as mine is too fine especially at the front, mainly due to medication & genes I suppose.

I get highlights which helps it look better, I use ghds & curling tongs, but unfortunately I have to tie it back for work & cant disguise my fine hairline easily.

I have thin, frizzy hair that only looks vaguely acceptable at shoulder length. I wish it was thicker - I’d love to have it longer but it looks terrible once it’s past my shoulders.

High/low lights can make hair look a bit thicker and more interesting.

Clip on pony tails and hair covered buns ect are nice for occasions when you want your hair to look half decent and stay how it was when you left the house.

I have fine blonde hair and do the low light/under dye thing and sometimes i'll use hair pieces for weddings ect. You have to pick the colour carefully and experiment a bit with putting them in at home and getting it right. If you get them home and they're too heavy (when you've got fine hair it feels weird suddenly having heavy hair on your head) or they're just too full or long for your liking you can certainly carefully chop bits off to thin them down a bit or shorten them.

I would say that out of every 2 or 3 i've bought 1 has been a disappointment and been binned, so prepare for that. One of them, however, always gets me compliments on my hair and questions about what i've done differently Grin Ironically it's one of the cheapys as well!

This kind of thing is easy'ish:

So, it's 'only' been like this 10 years? How's your health? Could it be thyroid related?

MrsLettuce · 29/11/2018 20:42

Actually iron deficiency is also a common and often undiagnosed thing that often causes hair to thin

ivykaty44 · 29/11/2018 20:45

Do you want it to be shoulder length?

I live cropped pixie cuts and it’s a good look with fine or thin hair

katekat383 · 29/11/2018 20:45

How about a chin length bob?

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 29/11/2018 22:46

I think you should get your iron levels amd thyroid checked. What the nhs considers to be normal levels is often way too low for decent hair.
If all is well with that, I'd buy volumising shampoo ( the loreal fibrolgy one is good), blow dry with voumising mousse and get advice from hairdresser re the best style for you.
