Facial moisturiser for ageing, dry sensitive skin wanted

I'm looking for a change of moisturiser for my ageing Irish type skin - I'm fair skinned and it's prone to dryness and sensitive to various things - I get scaly red dry patches with certain products, and I burn easy with the sun

I tend to avoid creams with too many chemicals etc and I am allergic to beeswax in creams so that cuts out quite a few products and I found out that Liz Earle products don't agree with me either, nor does oils so that cuts out the oil cleansing method.

So, give me some recommendations to try out please - I'm off to town tomorrow and will look for some samples and testers of potions and lotions
Thanks

Aveeno cream is fantastic for dry and sensitive skin. I have been using it for over 20 years. Alternatively, look at the brands Avene and La Roche Posay, think they're both in Boots and Superdrug.

I am 48 and have a similar skin type to you by sounds of it - very sensitive, very pale, dark hair with Irish ancestry.

La Roche Posay are excellent for sensitive skin. I always have their Cicaplast pro-skin recovery on hand, it's a face saver for me as I always get dry skin as we transition into the cold weather. An overnight layer of this resets my skin back to normal!

I also like Caudalie Vinosource Moisturising Sorbet as I like the light non greasy but highly moisturising texture. 15% off Caudalie at John Lewis today too.

@MrsChollySawcutt and @Perfectpanda11 thanks for the recommendations. My mum is Irish and I'm dark haired and pale - all my siblings have my dads skin type except me - browns easy etc
I've always had trouble with itchiness and redness

I have similar skin and I'm very careful what I use. I see you can't do oils so my usual regime of almond or wheatgerm oil (plus a separate sunscreen) is of no use. But my two trusted back ups are Dr Organic olive oil cream from Holland and Barrett and blue pot Nivea. I would never have expected Nivea to work for me as it's so perfumed but it does!

Clinque do a moisturiser surge cream (Pink Pot) which I find great.

JDSTER · 26/11/2018 17:28

As previously recommended La Roche posay are good. Their toleriane range is for sensitised skin. Have a look at their website before you go shopping www.laroche-posay.co.uk/range?ds_rl=1231675&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIzJzmr8ry3gIV7pztCh2J4QINEAAYASACEgK-RfD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds. With sensitive skin, the more minimal the routine the better and you should avoid common irritants like fragrance and essential oils (Liz Earle for example, contains both).

La Roche Posay toleraine riche

Sunisshining5346 · 26/11/2018 17:39

I'm a skin care specialist and would recommend Elemis marine cream day..if you can afford it the night cream also. But not essential!

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 26/11/2018 17:51

Don't know where you are and if you can take a look at it, but Ceramidin Gel Cream is wonderful.

It looks very odd, but it mixes to a lovely soothing cream, that's also great under make up.

there's a whole range, take a look if you can.

My skin sounds like yours. My father is Irish and my skin is prone to redness, sensitive and can be dry
I can't use Nivea blue pot but, when my skin got super sensitive and I couldn't use anything, I can use Nivea sensitive
I have just discovered Clinique moisture surge which makes my skin feel amazing. I'm not sure I could use it all the time though. I can get sensitive to creams
I'm always ok with the Nivea one. Aveeno I use on my body

BiggFactHunt · 26/11/2018 18:59

Pai calming day cream is really nice, think they have 25% off too.

iwonderwhen · 26/11/2018 19:24

Thanks for all your suggestions- I'll be out on the hunt tomorrow for them

I have similar skin and find the nivea sensitive cream is great. It isn't quite as greasy as the blue pot nivea which I find good as a night cream.

Clinique creams are also good on my skin. But not so good that I'll pay the extra for them.

Mouthfulofquiz · 26/11/2018 19:38

I am 37 and have Irish fair sensitive skin (the dark hair too!!
I use Avène hydrance optimale and also their sun cream on a daily basis. Seems to be about the best I can find for me!

TheSpottedZebra · 26/11/2018 21:29

Also irish parents, pale and dark haired with sensitive skin.
I've been using super drug vitamin e day and night moisturisers for a year or so now, and have found them good.

I also keep Cicaplast on hand for flare ups.

Ifonlyiweretaller · 26/11/2018 22:01

Another vote for Elemis marine cream here. I've tried lots of different products (from top end to cheap as chips) and Elemis is the best without a doubt.

DramaAlpaca · 26/11/2018 22:03

I have the same sort of skin and I really rate La Roche Posay.

Crusoe · 26/11/2018 22:25

My skin is similar. I didn’t get on with Aveeno it brought me out in loads of spots.
La Roche Posay Toleraine Riche has been the best I’ve found by a long way. It’s not cheap but worth it.

Babygrey7 · 26/11/2018 22:27

I also rate la roche posay

Their creams with vitb5 are very good

I put it on DS face too (16, eczema, it helps his skin heal)

SergeantPfeffer · 26/11/2018 22:32

Eucerin are also worth a look.

YahBasic · 26/11/2018 22:34

Kiehls Ultra Facial cream. I find it very soothing and plumping.
