Clairol Nice N Easy- New Formula, Good?

So I use to use the Nice N Easy permanent hair colour a while back, before they changed it (new boxes). I've been reading a few reviews online recently & there's quite a lot of bad reviews for the new-ish formula - a lot of people saying it's nothing like the old dye in terms of leaving the hair non-shiny & either very dark or not coloured.

I was thinking of giving it a go again, I was going to go for light ash brown as I know it will come from out darker anyway. Anyone using Nice n Easy recently & pleased with it?

I use nice and easy but I don't know why as I don't really like it! Hmm

It leaves a really dark line on my forehead and colours my scalp dark too. And it's quite a matt dark colour.
I used to use garnier and it was better so I'm going back to that. They've probably changed that formula too.

I used Nice n easy for years and had found the perfect colour for me. I absolutely hate the new formula though! I used it twice and checked online to see if it was just me who thought it had completely changed and wasn't even the same shade and was so relieved to see lots of other people also had the same problems. I so was annoyed as it had worked really well for me.
I switched instead to using majirel by loreal. It's a professional colour and you have to buy it along with a developer to use but the quality is so much better.

I'm using the new formula as we speak for colour 8. It's very different as it's a cream formula. The new instructions say to wash out with shampoo after as opposed to just rinse with water. Usually the dye is a brownish colour but the new one stays white which means I can actually gauge the new colour my hair is going whilst dyeing which is more helpful. As for what colour it finally goes, I'll update if I'm not happy.

I much prefer this new formula for shade 8. I left it on for 25 minutes as stated after application (which took 10 mins from start to finish for my roots) so a total of 35 minutes.
The colour is much better than before and I can make out the differing tones.
I used to leave it on for 10 mins longer. It does have a very floral scent which is a bit too much but it does help remind you you are wearing hair dye.

Love it.
My hairdresser likes it too for roots at home.
The shades are labelled as they are in the hairdressers so it saves me a fortune.

Thanks for the replies. It's really just my roots that I need to do so I can't get away with a semi it has to be a permanent as I've got really stubborn auburn roots (with a few greys!). I've been using Schwarzkopf Poly colour tint for a while at £2 a go which covered my roots great but doesn't last for very long. Will have to have another look around!
