I need to wear more colour but am rubbish at putting things together. Any tips please?

I'm 43 and looking tired, I have brown hair with greys appearing, get the roots done every 6 weeks but don't feel the colour does much for me at all. Brown eyes and sallow skin with dark circles.

I wear a lot of grey & navy for work, sometimes black. I had my colours done a few years ago and came out as an Autumn. I was given a little swatch of colours to help choose when buying clothes. But I've never got the hang of it. Either I can't find the colours in the shops or I don't like the ones I can find. There is a tomato red which I love and really suits me but I just don't have the confidence to wear that colour, especially to work!

I realise the difference colour can make to appearance but I'm just no good at putting things together and I don't feel I have the confidence to wear colour even though I know it would probably make me look a hell of a lot better than I do currently!

Does anyone have any advice please?

So am I right in thinking just because a colour is in my swatch set it doesn’t mean it will suit me. In the last week I’ve bought a mustard top and a mustard neck warmer as that colour is in my swatch but I’m not sure I like them on me. I think it makes my face look a bit yellow!
Also no one commented at work when I wore the mustard top and that made me think maybe it looked awful! Whenever I’ve worn a bright top in other colours like red or coral, )which isn’t often), people have said wow that really suits you.
Annoying as bloody mustard is everywhere but I’m just not convinced it does anything for me.
Anyone else find the same? I’ve always thought, well if it’s in my swatch then it must suit me, but maybe not..

Some of the colours in your swatch will be better on you than others, I’m a dark summer so I suit French Navy and the darker colours rather than the pastels ( which still suit me but don’t have the same impact).

Have a look at Kettlewell. They have loads of colour that have the seasons next to them so you know which you should be buying. Their infinity scarves are a great start (i have 5 of them!) as they can lift any outfil and and are dead easy to put onso no faffing trying to make them look casual (I'm rubbish at that...) www.kettlewellcolours.co.uk/products/accessories/item/florence-infinity-scarf They have sold out of oa lot of the colours but there are still quite a few autumn ones!

my DH is an autumn -

Could try on some brighter autumn colours eg warm orange in casual clothes?

Not all autumn has to be muted. Also not forgetting green eg olive etc can be sophisticated

Also some brands carry more of these colours than others eg seasalt & fatface
Autumn colours often quite outdoorsy

I'm an autumn. I binned all my black and stick to navy as my basic work colour. Avoid grey like the plague!! Not all colours suit me from the autumn palette, I was given a sheet with which ones to wear in small quantities, which ones look good close to my face etc. I have never felt so confident or received so many compliments!! Good luck with it, just try to make sure everything new is an autumn colour and gradually replace your wardrobe bit by bit.

I don’t know my cu about the colour/ seasons thing ( Because it’s obvious when colours don’t suit me, I look dreadful!), but I have an autumn friend, who wears lots of clover and heather colours with sage greens. She looks great, could that work for you?

I'm an autumn too. I've never 'had my colours done' but I have obvious autumn colouring. Colours that suit me best are rust red, olive green, mustard yellow, burgundy and teal. I agree that a scarf in the 'right' colour can make a whole outfit suit you better.

There was a thread for 'autumns' a few weeks ago which might help you get some ideas : www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/3365135-Any-autumns-around

Ps I never used to pay any attention to colours but as I get older I've noticed that some colours make me look awful. When I was younger I could wear pretty much anything. Grey is the worst colour for me, it makes me look ill.
