Help looking less tired

Hi, I'm looking for any low cost (ideally), easy ideas to make myself look and feel less tired. I have two preschool age children who are up at 5am every morning! Currently I wear minimal makeup (for work) and haven't bought any new clothes recently. Where do I start? Makeup? Clothes? Hair? Attitude? I've booked to have my eyebrows threaded and starting to drink more water. I also need to start exercising again (although the thought of this exhausts me). Any tips would be wonderful.

I also get up at 5am and by the end of the week can look pretty scary, I do try to avoid wearing black next to my face because it's too harsh when you look tired. Yes to water and eating as healthy as possible.

Good point! I do wear too much black!

Following. I look exhausted all of the time too.

I try and drink loads of water, use cleansing balm and serum at night plus la roche posay effeclar, but I still look knackered and rough.

My 3 year old is also a 5am riser. I go to bed at 9pm. It doesn’t really help! I’ve admitted defeat and am booked in for Botox and fillers Grin

Love the solidarity!

Must go to bed earlier.

I've found using a hint of fake tan on my face helps. Olay have a moisturiser ('touch of sunshine'?) That's helpful. Then highlighter/blushes and various other make up. I look knackered without it Blush

Add a hydrating toner- so simple but really helps to decrease fine lines and fixes you a bit of a glow. The aim is to add moisture without heavy layers which can clog pores.
I like Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner and Etude House Soon Jung but there are lots about. Look for ones with Hyaluronic Acid, glycerin or panthenol, no alcohol Denat or witch hazel (drying/irritating.

Try this method - most ppl don't do 7 skins (layers), most do 3-4 daily but your skin may well drink up a lot of layers the first few times you do it! Looks a bit daft but it really does work.

Try Liz Earle instant boost skin tonic. You sweep it on like a toner after cleansing. It's brightening and I can tell a difference if I stop using it. Her face masks are also lovely.

Do you know which colours really suit you? If I’m really tired but I’m wearing a scarf in one of my top colours (for me it’s fuschia pink) it really makes a difference to how awake I look. Doesn’t have to be an expensive one I just use a £5 one I got from a market.

I've recently started using a colour correcting concealer under my eyes before adding a touch of normal. I wish I'd done it ages ago. Definitely works better on dark circles. It's a peachy/pink tone. Was only a few quid from superdrug. I'll see if I can find a link.

Following. My youngest is a 2.30/3.30 riser 🙈🙈💤💤💤💤

I always look tired when au naturel! Things that work for me are hair highlighted several shades lighter (it really lifts my face), good eyebrows (threaded and tinted), a sweep of highlighting type powder over my whole face at the end of doing my makeup.

Would love to brave enough to try botox / fillers. @RefuseTheLies what are you getting done?

RefuseTheLies · 19/11/2018 21:52

Forehead, laughter lines botoxed and cheek fillers. Thinking about lip fillers but don’t want duck face, so not sure.

In the meantime, bb cream has been an absolute revelation for me. I stopped wearing make up about 3 years ago but have recently started taking an interest in my appearance again. Now I get my eyebrows shaped and tinted and eyelashes tinted, slap on some bb cream and I look vaguely human.

hollieberrie · 19/11/2018 22:36

Ooh good to know. Hope you love it!

minipie · 19/11/2018 22:52

Tired here too.

Agree with

  • BB cream (I like the Nivea one)
  • Eyebrows
  • Lighter coloured hair if you can
  • Avoid black and try to wear really flattering colours near your face

I will add

  • Tiny bit of blusher and lip colour
  • Whiter teeth - Creststrips are a budget option

Following for any tips on under eye puffy bags, mine are baaaad and I can’t seem to shift them even when I get decent sleep.

StarkintheSouth · 20/11/2018 13:06

I use an illuminating primer underneath my makeup - keeps my makeup on for longer and I look fresher as a result. I also use Clarins Beauty flash if I’m in real need and Caudalie spray regularly. PP’s about drinking lots of water is also v good advice. Good luck! Feel your pain....
