Curlers for beachy waves

Right. Christmas is coming and I want new hair :)

I have bra strap length thick hair. It’s fuzzy naturally. I normally straighten it for ease, but I like beachy waves. I can create them with my GHDs but it kills my hair. I’ve tried ragging and looked RIDICULOUS. There must be a better way....

What should I ask for for Christmas??

My hair is super straight but I love to curl it for special events.

The BabyLiss Curl Secret is good, but you have to be careful to use small sections of it can get tangled.

If you have the budget I would highly recommend the new Dyson AirWrap. The curling wands are very effective (after some practice) and very gentle on the hair. It gives me the perfect combo of curl, shine and softness. The only drawback apart from the eye watering cost (they start at £400) is that on my soft hair the curls don’t last long - with generous use of hairspray they will last all evening but the next day they they have dropped out into waves and after two days I’m back to straight. However it sounds as if your hair has a lot more body than mine so you might get more staying power.

I got one of these as I'm totally hopeless at curling without burning myself 🙄
I really like it.

Not curlers but... Have you tried the hairband curling method? it's awesome! Loads of tutorials on Youtube.

Forforkssake1 · 17/11/2018 20:16

Try the curly girl hair method - you won't need curlers'

I've got the Toni and Guy Deep Barrel Waver too, it's brilliant!

I have thick straight hair which is past my shoulders and the waves last until I next wash it, so usually three days.

I’ve just treated myself to the mark hill pick and mix fix curler, it’s a curler handle that can be twisted to a 90 degree angle which makes it so much easier to curl the back of my head and you can chop and change which type of barrel you want in the handle.

I have a normal curling wand barrel and one called the wicked waver which I have found is perfect for beachy, laid back waves even though it looks like anal beads! no two curls are the same and it’s totally easy to do

That last one totally looks like a sex toy! Grin

The Dyson one is probably out of my price range sadly.

I have tried curly girl but it just made my hair look dreadful. I know that’s an unacceptable thing to say on here but it really didn’t work well for me...

BaByliss Curl Secret has good Amazon reviews. The curl pattern seems quite tight, anyone own one? Can you adjust it for beachy waves?

Tiddles- the photos online of the Toni & Guy waver all look a bit “crimpy”- do you find it looks natural? Great price!

Fellow Spam friend! I did try the hair band method. I looked like a demented spaniel Grin

I have a babyliss curling wand, one brush of the curl with my tangle teezer and voila, beachy waves that don’t drop out either. And it costs about £30!!

Spamfrittersforeveryone · 17/11/2018 22:01

Ooh interesting!
Does it knacker your hair less than doing it with my straighteners would Bellini?

Just try a bit of conditioner after you've rinsed - works wonders

madnessIsay · 18/11/2018 08:19

try the lee stafford sex toy looking one. Gives the most natural looking waves imo. I hate the obviously curled look.

bellinibobble · 18/11/2018 18:53

Yep, I use it on the lowest heat level and only curl each section for 5 secs so it doesn’t damage my hair at all, much easier and less pulling than using straighteners!

SunnySummerDays · 19/11/2018 00:04

I’ve got the Tesco own wand and use it for nicer curls of my naturally curly hair.
I find if I run it down the top part it removes the frizz and I then wrap the lowest bit for the curl.
Dead easy and quick
