Swimmers shampoo and conditioner

I've just started swimming again after a couple of years off. I'm going about twice a week. Can anyone please recommend some good hair care products to get rid of chlorine?

Yes I am flummoxed by how many women swim regularly and don’t have hair that looks like a green brillopad! How do they do it! Also how do people swim regularly and get rid of body hair? If you wax there is inevitably a wait if five or six weeks whilst the hair grows back. I haven’t shaved in thirty years and don’t intend to start again now.
Am I missing something??

Boots sun swim and gym good. on offer 2 for £5.Don't normally use shampoo this cheap, but found it very good for use after pool along with the conditioner

I second the boots one - always seems to do the job!

cupofteaandcake · 16/11/2018 22:10

Not sure if this will help or it's true however someone told me once to thoroughly wet your hair in the shower before swimming. Your hair absorbs the clean water and isn't affected by the chlorine water so much.

Moon on the hill - I Do a different hobby but same issue - I just have to shave but some people go laser.
waxing just isn’t great for me with the whole growing it out

capercaillie · 16/11/2018 22:18

Wet hair and swimming hat. Shampoo afterwards. Friend swears by coconut oil under swimming hat

Redskyandrainbows67 · 16/11/2018 22:33

Moon - I time shaving for the days I know I’m swimming!

LavenderBush · 16/11/2018 22:37

Another vote for Ultraswim shampoo.

The most important ingredient to look for is sodium thiosulphate - the higher up the ingredients list, the better. That's what gets the chlorine out.

locketrocket · 16/11/2018 22:38

Hmm, I really don't rate the boots range, makes my hair very lank.
Always slap on conditioner and swim cap before going in the water too.
I wax every 4 weeks, and do a quick tidy with tweezers if needed. But have been waxing for so long I'm getting bald patches 😳🙈😁

Moononthehill28 · 16/11/2018 23:03

I’ve heard that wetting your hair first is good too.

AlecOrAlonzo · 16/11/2018 23:39

I wear a hat.

I don't bother shaving my legs. No one is looking at me. Why would they care? Anyway I'm sleek and swift in my dreams the water so they can't see.

WeeSausage · 17/11/2018 16:26

I wear a hat but the water gets in around the bottom. I think I must have a massive head Grin

I only use a really good conditioner after swimming and seems to work for me. I swim 5 times a week. I don’t really shave or wax much only very occasionally. I don’t notice anyone else when swimming so assume noone is looking at me eitherConfused

WeeSausage · 24/11/2018 15:20

I bought the Ultra Swim. Hair smells much nicer, and much less frizzy thanks.

Superdrug do one as well which I find smells nicer than the Boots one.

greencatbluecat · 24/11/2018 16:30

@cupofteaandcake is right. If your hair is already soaking wet, it doesn't absorb so much of the pool water. Wear a good hat too. I have been swimming a lot for years. I sometimes shampoo and always condition after a swim. I just use whatever is available in Poundland. My hair is in good condition.

greencatbluecat · 24/11/2018 16:31

Ie normal shampoo and conditioner - not special swimmers stuff

WrenDouglas · 26/11/2018 08:39

I get my hair damp before going in the pool and then comb through Philip Kingsley Swim Cap cream (same consistency as conditioner) and put my actual swim cap on top.
Afterwards I use Paul Mitchell Shampoo Three (designed to remove chlorine) followed by a really rich, moisturising shampoo and conditioner (something like OGX Argan Oil ones) and when my hair is towel-dry, I’ll apply some Argan Oil.
