Concealer that actually works

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good concealer? I've got really bad dark circles under my eyes which are hard to cover. The concealers I've had in the past have rubbish coverage and staying power.

Benefit has one called Boing which is the only concealer I've ever used that has stayed put all day. My undereyes are very dark and it covers nicely.

Babybearsporij · 15/11/2018 18:10

The Collection one from Boots is very good, not thick and cakey but perfect coverage. I'm very pale and they do a light version that actually matches my skin tone!

HeyMacWey · 15/11/2018 18:12

I like the clarins one in a tube. Really brightens and no creasing either.

QueenOfTheAndals · 15/11/2018 18:14

I second the Collection Lasting Perfection concealer. It's better than my Nars Radiant Creamy one and is a fraction of the price.

SpamChaudFroid · 15/11/2018 18:15

I find Boing a little cakey and settles into lines.

Am watching with interest, am on the lookout for a fab new concealer as well. I did hear that Make Up Revolution's Conceal and Define was supposed to be v. good, sort of a dupe for Tarte Shape Tape.

Then again, Benefit Erase Paste isn't bad. I'd say there's better though.

Kaisawheel · 15/11/2018 18:16

I'll keep an eye out for these, unfortunately I've tried the collection one and that does nothing for me Sad

Tarte shape tape. It's pricey but you get a pretty big tube and only need to use a tiny bit because it's really full coverage

mrsoutnumbered · 15/11/2018 18:23

That's a shame, I was about to third the collection one! I have the remnants of a black eye (from June 😭) as well as dark under eye circles and it works really well for me.

Olivecake · 15/11/2018 18:32

Have you tried using a corrector under your concealer? For very dark circles it’s supposed to work much better to counteract the darkness. Bobbi brown do a very popular one but I use the urban decay colour correcting fluid (peach or pink works best for circles depending on your skin tone) and then concealer on top and it makes a big difference.

For concealer I like the urban decay naked one or RMS uncoverup

Greekcatslovesouvlaki · 15/11/2018 18:41

The MAC one in the little toothpaste shaped tube. It's not cheap (I think about £25) but it lasts forever and great coverage/staying power

Lamentations · 15/11/2018 18:44

I second the Clarins suggestion for under eye. I also like Nars creamy concealer.

I do think though that it's worth really thinking about how much you want to cover every bit of darkness under the eye. The current fad seems to be to erase and 'correct' every issue but actually some of that natural shading is what gives our faces shape. Sali Hughes interviewed Dick Page on her in the bathroom series a while back (it's still on YouTube) and they discussed this. Completely changed how I thought about it and I now embrace my dark circles - and I think look better for it.

Fatted · 15/11/2018 18:47

I'd say try a colour corrector or primer instead. I've got dark circles around my eyes (iron deficiency!) and using a lilac primer under my foundation has been the best thing for brightening my eyes.

beanaseireann · 15/11/2018 19:02

Revlon Youth FX concealer is great

CrazySheepLady · 15/11/2018 22:09

A make up artist on here recommended a peach coloured corrector to counteract the blue in my dark circles. I then use a Maybelline concealer over that. Can't remember the name but it has a bobble shaped sponge applicator. It's probably the best combination I've tried to date.

Gwenhwyfar · 15/11/2018 22:16

I use the Vichy Dermablend one, but am not particularly happy. I've never found a concealer that hides my dark circles. I've used the Collection one as well and it didn't work.
Tried the Bobbi Brown corrector and that didn't work either.

NuffingChora · 16/11/2018 10:34

Agree about trying a corrector - get one properly colour matched at Bobbi Brown - but I def don’t recommend their concealer - cakey and hard to blend. However, there’s a range available via M&S called Amazing Cosmetics - they have a product called Amazing Concealer which is absolutely brilliant - expensive but need an absolutely tiny amount - I’ve had my tube for 8 months+ now and not even half way through. It’s really serious high coverage stuff, and lasts well when set with a tiny bit of powder. I like NYX High Definition Finishing powder for set, and Laura Mercier (again, lasts AGES) for loose.

professionalnomad · 16/11/2018 11:28

I have really really dark circles (yay genetics)

If you want to minimise them you HAVE to colour correct first.
I use Bobbi Brown Brown Intensive eye serum corrector
Then I pile on a THICK concealer like Tarte maracuja creaseless concealer
Finally I bake with Ambient lighting powder (I bought a mini which is more affordable and lasts long enough)

This will last me about 6 hours before it starts wearing off

Avegemitesandwich · 16/11/2018 11:30

Yep, the Collection one is the bees knees.

I found the Clarins one a bit crap, it didn't really cover! In the same way the Maybelline one doesn't really cover they are more just 'brighteners' I find, but others think they are great.

DontFundHate · 16/11/2018 12:14

@Lamentations wow that video, inspiring. Thanks so much

dontgobaconmyheart · 16/11/2018 13:02

I like the collection concealer, but hate it for under my eyes, on me it seems to crease and gives a very obvious 'concealer under eyes look, which i tjink actually makes my eyes look smaller. It's brilliant for blemishes though.
Revolution one I found ok but the tube didn't last long. Nars creamy concealer I found very drying under my eyes.

Borjouis Radiance reveal I quite like, and the maybelline eye eraser is quite good. Both are a lighter consistency and easy to blend. Interesting thread though, it's made me realise the reason I think things are crap might be that I don't put the prep in. I just whack it on on top of moisturiser, don't prime or bake or set! Blush. Am off to look at colour correcting!

Xxalisoncxx · 16/11/2018 14:09

The new revolution concealer, around £5 and brilliant! The foundation from the same range gives extreme coverage,
anyone like me with acne etc used together- brilliant x

lottielottielottie · 16/11/2018 15:53

I recently bought this, absolutely gobsmacked as to how good it is for the price ( plus it's currently on 3 for 2 in boots )

I used to use YSL Touché eclat, couldn't afford to keep buying it as I use it daily, plus It wasn't great at coverage.

The maybelline one doesn't crease, I use in on top of a face primer & it stays put all day. It completely covers dark circles, the transformation is amazing. Try it, you will be pleasantly suprised.
