Beauty 101 HELP!

I need some budget buys advice and I know you all can help me! I used to use 'high end' products but I've bought a new car and recently gone part time in my job so I need to dramatically scale down the spending to proper budget beauty buys. I'm getting to the end of some of my current products and do not have the money to replace them. When I went into Boots and Superdrug to look for replacements I was overwhelmed and I have no idea what is incredible and what is rubbish.

I'm ashamed to say I haven't had to buy 'bargain' stuff since my teens (I'm 39 now) so I now have no clue what I'm going to do.

I have oily/combination skin and now need recommendations for basic budget everything -

cleanser,
toner,
moisturiser,
primer,
Foundation for oily/comb
Eyeshadow palettes
Mascara
Shampoo and conditioner for coloured, damaged hair
Intensive conditioner/mask for coloured, damaged hair

The cheaper the better - below £5 for each preferably. Is that even possible?! My skincare was Clarins, my makeup was Benefit and Lancome and I used TIGI haircare but all that must now end. I do have some products left but when they are gone I have no way of replacing them although I have a birthday coming up and I plan on asking for some stuff for Christmas too! But long term realistically until my car is paid off I need to find alternatives. Fave product was touche eclait, nakd palette and colour corrector for red patches too Sad

Any advice about any products from much cheaper sources would be super appreciated.

I live north east so I can access most High Street stores including a Savers, Lidl and Aldi if necessary! Not a fan of ordering online I prefer to look at a product first, iyswim.

Any product recommendations would be truly appreciated!

TIA

Try Garden of Wisdom or The Ordinary for cheap moisturisers.

This cheap makeup thread might help: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/style_and_beauty/3409521-Your-best-cheap-make-up-recommendations

You can buy Tigi online or tkmax really cheaply. It might help to say which products you were using.

Tigi Catwalk Headshot reconstructive intensive and
Tigi bedhead urban anti-dotes for dry damaged

Superdrug own brand ranges have some really good stuff, mostly inexpensive and often on special offer. Cleanser and Toner for a start. Try Lanacane anti-chaffing gel as a primer (yes really), Make Up Revolution for eyeshadow palettes and eye primer - also worth looking at them for slightly more technical skin care stuff as they’ve just launched a range that’s basically dupes of The Ordinary.

cleanser - boots botanics do a lotion or balm

toner - get boots rosewater or go for nip/fab acid toner

moisturiser - boots botanics again is good

primer - anything by NYX is decent

Foundation for oily/comb - makeup revolution conceal and define, revlon colourstay

Eyeshadow palettes - sleek, makeup revolution, NYX

Mascara - essence princess mascara

Shampoo and conditioner for coloured, damaged hair - garnier ultimate blends, the oat one is great

Intensive conditioner/mask for coloured, damaged hair
Osmo mask off amazon

Watch boots for points events, TK Maxx (google a product if you're unsure!) and I am utterly loathe to post this site as I love it BUT
it's legit and most stuff is half price or less

Superdrug is good. I'd get the following if I were you:

Cleanser - simply pure www.superdrug.com/Simply-Pure/Simply-Pure-Calming-Cleanser-200ml/p/204286 £2.99
Plus toner from the same range - £4.50 for both as it's buy one get one half price

Or hot cloth cleanser www.superdrug.com/Skincare/Superdrug-Naturally-Radiant-Hot-Cloth-Face-Cleanser-150ml/p/516251 and
exfoliating toner www.superdrug.com/Naturally-Radiant/Superdrug-Natural-Radiant-Glycolic-Toner-100ml/p/729356 £5.99 for both as buy one get one free

Moisturiser www.superdrug.com/Simply-Pure/Superdrug-Simply-Pure-Light-Emulsion-Moisturiser/p/734940 £4.99 I have this and it's really good

Foundation Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum - best foundation I've tried and that includes v high end ones £10.99

Eyeshadow palette - get a Revolution one - e.g. www.superdrug.com/Make-Up/Eye-Makeup/Eye-Shadow/Eye-Shadow-Palettes/Revolution-Redemption-Palette-Iconic-2/p/979703 £4.00 or this Nip Fab one is really good www.superdrug.com/Nip-Fab/NIPFAB-Make-Up-Eyeshadow-Palette-12g-Sculpted-1/p/730749 £10.95
Mascara -you can't go wrong with Max Factor 2000 calorie £7.99

Superdrug are currently doing 3 for 2 on all makeup so you could get all three for around £20

Also if you sign up for a Superdrug Health and beauty card you can get free delivery if you order online

Second the suggestion to look in poundland for shampoo and conditioner.

I don't know about primer as I don't use it (hate silicones) but you could try the Revolution one from Superdrug - or ELF is meant to be good

Fashionista101 · 15/11/2018 15:04

Foundation. Sleek is so good it's called life proof and it really is.

The ordinary have great affordable skincare too :)

Fashionista101 · 15/11/2018 15:05

L'Oréal do good primers in different coloured tubes. I use the matte one and it is really good. I had. A good mix of high end and affordable. I love expensive foundation but I just go through it too fast to justify it, the sleek one works really well for me.

mickeymacca · 15/11/2018 15:11

I second the superdrug hot cloth cleanser. The whole range in the pale green boxes is fab.i stock up when it's buy one get one free. I use the hot cloth cleanser also the face scrub, night cream and radiance balm. It's lovely stuff.

Look into oil cleansing method.... I have many many flannels and cleanse my face with hot water mostly (I wear makeup almost every day). Or I make my own oil with EVOO and jojoba. Initla outlay is the oil which you can get in supermarket and helath shop and some flannels.... 5 years later my face has never been so good.

I never use toner and have roseca so can only use 1 moisturiser (dermalex) which you can get from amazon.

I gave up deoderant and tampax for environmental reasons. But not using them saves a fortune. I use a salt crystal stick as deo and 1 which costs £7-8 can last a year. Again you can buy on amazon if there isnt health food shop near you. I use a mooncup which cost £25 but Ive had the same one for nearly 10 years.

So rather than going for "cheaper" brands why not use this as chance to change your perception on what you really need? I use basic shampoo as well and simple body wash.

Then I save all my money for top end foundation etc. I would rather a mooncup and crystal deoderant than cheap foundation any day.

Collection mascara is superb: www.collectioncosmetics.co.uk/products/eyes/mascara/lash-surge-volumising-mascara I saw it recommended on here and I'm now on my second tube. And just £4.99. I also bought a Natural Collection blush (also recommended on here) and just £1.99 www.boots.com/natural-collection-powder-blusher-10237578. The first week I wore it, I got three compliments on how nice I looked. For £1.99! I'd been using a Clinique blusher before that.

Revolution Beauty have a few eyeshadow palettes that are dupes of the expensive ones. I have their "Naked 3" dupe and it's superb, so they probably have the others too.

FloofyDoof · 15/11/2018 16:26

I have oily/combo skin and I really like the neutrogena hydro boost gel cream, it's light and non greasy, and there's always an offer on for it somewhere. The cleanser is quite nice too.

Maybelline baby skin primer is good if you like a silicone based primer.

Herbal essences Bio:renew shampoos and conditioners are nice. I like the argan oil one, it smells good too.

Maybelline 'the falsies' mascara is brilliant. I've had lots of high end ones in the past but I always come back to this!
