Organic hair perm disaster

I wrote a thread recently about dreading going into work and everyone noticing my new perm but that's not really a problem now.

What is a problem is that I had a perm a week ago and it's awful. I'm gutted. Spent so much money that I shouldn't have but was desperate to do something to fix my hair and now it's worse.

It looks like a birds nest. Really frizzy and afro like. Even the curls aren't proper curls but more like zig zag. I don't know if it's actually gone wrong?

My hair has been naturally curly before so know how to look after curls (microfiber towel, sulphate/silicone free products etc)

Apparently after 2 weeks the curls are meant to "settle" so will wait another week before going back to hairdresser.

Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and if there's any hope for my hair ever looking nice again before it eventually grows out??

I’ve had dodgy colour and have gone back and they have fixed it.

I have been able to be quite specific with what was wrong and what I wanted instead. So on that basis I would feel confident to let them rectify it.
I would want them to either promise that they could make it look like a perm. Or I would ask for it to be chemically straightened....like a keratin perm?

However I must add I have no clue about perms!

You could always try a product for Afro/mixed hair -a detangler and curling custard.

Spamfrittersforeveryone my hair was a bit like this before, the girl with the stripy top.

Are you combing it through when the conditioner is on as it looks a bit matted. it has been decades since I had a perm but if I remember I had to comb it while wet then let dry or use a diffuser ( not sure if diffusers are still advised) then not comb/ brush when dry.

cakedup · 13/11/2018 22:55

I was just having problems because my hair was so inconsistent, some of it was curly and some of it was straight so just would never sit right.

Lucked hairdresser told me not to comb it, only a bit with my fingers. I might try a comb tomorrow.

I've just emailed the salon with the pics I posted. I don't want to come in and be fobbed off, I've had that happen before. Hopefully the owner of the salon will see my email. I just wanted to email ahead so I'm a bit prepared when I go in.

Wide tooth comb with conditioner on, then fingers only after that. I think this will make all the difference.

cakedup · 14/11/2018 17:13

Lucked I think you are probably right! Today I washed with conditioner only, the combed through with wide tooth comb and then rinsed. Then instead of curl ceram I used mousse and it's a bit better. Doesn't look so damaged now, right? I mean I still don't love it...but maybe in a week or when it's settled a bit it might be alright? Opinions please!

Hairdressers wrote back after I'd sent them the photos from before. They apologised and said it looked as though my hair had a reaction the perm and that they've contacted their perm suppliers to find out why. They have offered for me to go so they can have a proper look and apply treatments.

That looks great OP!

WorldParty · 14/11/2018 17:57

Have a look at the curly girl method
I think that technique would improve your curl. I don't think the hairdresser has done the job the should have

Atalune · 14/11/2018 18:14

I really like it!

However I would still go in and talk to them about it.

Candlelights2345 · 14/11/2018 18:41

It looks much better but I’d still go and speak to them.

Ohyesiam · 14/11/2018 18:53

Wow, much better quality of curl now.
I think the hair dresser need to take responsibility, they sell the product, so they need to be happy with all the results, no matter what the manufacturer says.

Hezz · 14/11/2018 19:07

It looks better but go back for treatments

SparkyBlue · 14/11/2018 20:17

Oh I really like it now OP. Once it loosens out a bit more it will be stunning.

cakedup · 14/11/2018 21:26

Thanks everyone! I'll report back to hairdresser and see what they say but feeling much better about it now. It actually looked even better when it dried completely (was a bit damp in pics).
