Awful awful hair

I’m so fed up with my hair. It’s extremely dry, like straw, frizzy and looks terrible. I dye it dark and use a hair dryer so probably not doing myself any favours I know :(. Can anyone recommend anything that might help? I’m not looking for miracle, tv advert swishy hair ( though that would nice), just a bit softer and shinier and not so dry rough and grim.

You need this OP. It will put all the moisture back in and make it much easier to manage. Can you do any no-heat styles for a few weeks?

I bought the new elvive low shampoo

It is strange with no foam almost like a conditioner but somehow it does clean your hair.

My hair was really dry from bleaching a couple of years ago; to tame it and make it look healthy and feel soft and smooth I stopped blow drying but started straightening it - I have the GHD Eclipse straighteners which work amazingly but only go up to 180 degrees Celsius which is quite a lot cooler than normal GHDS.

Before straightening I’d use a serum (applied to damp hair) and then a heat protective oil (I use the ultimate blends one which says it protects hair from heat up to 240c) and I only straighten it one time pet was if that makes sense. The straightening really helps with the dry feeling.

I would try to use a gentle dye too like nice and easy :) it’s cheap but I find it even more gentle than the semi permanent ones (even nice and easy’s own semi permanent ones) and the colour isn’t too opaque and dyed looking.

Also the above products mentioned are just for styling. You want to do a good warm oil mask at least once a week, wash maximum of twice a week if you can get away with it and use the condition wash condition method when washing - with a really good deep conditioner. It might be worth getting a series of good trims as well over the next few months as damaged ends can ruin the look of hair and stop it growing if you are trying to gain some length. I have naturally frizzy hair too and it was in such awful condition for years that it wouldn’t grow! :( so I know your pain :)

Pet was = per wash Blush

Have you ever tried a Brazilian blow dry? It's really helped my hair which has been damaged from bleach blond dye.

The other thing you can try is Olaplex.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 12/11/2018 00:11

I have dry hair at the ends and I use a deep conditioner with every wash (and leave it on for several minutes). I also like the Elvive Extraordinary Oil Deep Nourishing Treatment. It's a leave-in oil - I put it in before drying my hair and pretty much every time I'm styling it (even if it's not freshly washed).

Those dry ends seem to drink it up!

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 12/11/2018 00:14

i also recommend the brazilian straightening i buy the kit off amazon for 24.99 and it is amazing, also recommend palmers coconut oil spray leave in conditioner, it has made a massive difference to my dry frizzy hair when the brazilian stuff wears off

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 12/11/2018 00:15

also worth an oil on the ends, morroccan oil is good

professionalnomad · 12/11/2018 06:49

Olaplex is AMAZING!

Roobub · 12/11/2018 07:05

I second professional's suggestion for Olaplex 3. That or Philip Kingsley Elasticizer before you shampoo (at least once a week). For conditioner I have has great results with the Hask Keratin Protein Mask (can get from superdrug, £2.50 for a sachet so not a big investment if it doesn't work for you). I think alternating between a moisturising and a protein building conditioner gives the best results. Also sounds like you need a serum. The Paul Mitchell skinny serum is brilliant and transforms my hair. I'm sure if you really look after it within a few weeks it'll be looking salon swishy!

SSRainbow · 12/11/2018 07:09

Oils are your friend! I have your hair but I bleach / straighten it too.
I have tried loads but my favourites which don’t cost too much are Moroccan oil and Ketestase ultimate elixir. I also discovered matrix biolage conditioner recently, it’s pricey when not in offer but you can get a big bottle for a fiver at the moment if you do an online search, this has helped my hair loads x

Bloomburger · 12/11/2018 07:18

I have lots of hair but it's v v fine and was quite broken, like a lot of people I thought oil was the way forward but got a new hairdresser and he told me to stay away from oil if you've fine or broken hair.

He recommended Redken Extreme shampoo and leave in conditioner and their Heavy Cream deep conditioning treatment.

I now feel like I have someone else's hair.

I'm not to use anything greasy or oily, I only use the leave in conditioner, tangle tamer brush for wet hair, dry on low heat setting as possible with round brush, not straighteners and then hairspray.

My shite broken frizzy mess is a thing of the past. I gave all the oils away too.

It's not long enough to need to be tied back but I'd be very careful not to pull your hair back too tightly and to use bands that don't snag your hair as that will increase the breakage.

Bloomburger · 12/11/2018 07:19

The Extreme stuff is especially for breakage.

whynot93 · 12/11/2018 07:40

I use this stuff and it's transformed my hair 😊

Ok loads of ideas - going to try Redken first and see how that goes. I have an oil that I’ve been putting in but not great results so far.
