Grown-up labels/shops that are good for slimmer people?

I went shopping today for jeans/trousers. My body shape has fluctuated a fair bit over the past few years owing to two pregnancies, but I think it's settled down now to a similar shape that it was before. I went to the shops with fantasies of finally being able to buy some nice clothes without thinking 'there's no point buying these, they'll be the wrong size soon'.

I figured I'd go more for 'grown up' labels, that may cost a bit more but would last me years and wash and wear really well. Did a tour of John Lewis and went to the fitting rooms with trousers from Boden, Jigsaw and John Lewis own brand. Turns out they were all too baggy in size 8s!

Went to H&M, because I used to shop there a fair bit before pregnancies, and a pair of their size 10 jeans fitted beautifully. Thing is the fabric felt thin, and the front pockets were pretend pockets. I really couldn't buy them - I need proper pockets at least.

My question is, does anyone know any label/shops which are good for people on the slimmer side, but aimed at a more grown-up rather than youth market?

I'm 36. 5ft 6in, with a 29inch waist (28 if you squish the saggy post-pregnancy skin Smile), 35inch hips.

Not super high-end, but I find Uniqlo fit really well and are more 'grown up' than the likes of H&M. Their stuff can be a bit random, but they have some good things in there.

I have a lovely top from Muji, they have a limited range of clothes but defiintely come up small.

Thanks Sadik, Uniqlo is a great idea. I'm going to give them a go

I am a size 6. Can’t get trousers from the shops you mention, way too big, but can from eg &otherstories, arket, uniqlo, massimo Dutti. I do have some nice jeans from H&M and Zara if you can bear to look. And gap.

Thanks @jmfan. Have never been in Arket or Massimo Dutti before, so will check them out. And Gap, you're right, I forgot I used to like them for jeans.

& Other Stories. They have a big range, great tailored trousers, grown up enough but still fun.

I have nice jeans from 7 for all mankind and miss sixty, both I got in TK Maxx, which I find good for better quality in smaller sizes.

Op - I have the same problem! I am mid 40s and have always been slim. I find that most “grown up” clothes are just too big. Size 8 seems to the new size 12.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I think it'll save me a lot of fruitless traipsing around shops. And it's not exactly something I'd want to ask people about in real life, for fear of offending someone.

French connection is very small for size and their 8 is a true 8. For higher end try Net-a-Porter or Flannels and try a few on. I second 7 for all Mankind also.

I'm 48 and similar size.
Reiss size 8 trousers fit beautifully and are lovely quality. They do work style and casual fitted ones with zips at the ankle.

I've also had some great trousers from cos size,8 fit.
