Are eye creams worth the money?

I’m 45 and always moisturise all over my face but I’m thinking that maybe I should use a cream specifically for the eye area.
But are they worth the money, do they actually help?

I have just reached the age where yes they are helping the fine lines that now appear under my eyes.

I just use a Nivea eye cream for now but I've also used Clinique all about eyes which I really liked.

I tried Skin III in Space NK and my lines just magically disappeared in front of my eyes but it's very expensive.

@tantric, are you referring to this one?

I always use eye cream but normally the £30 to £40 ones. They are fine but have always wondered if a really expensive one would make a huge difference

I’m not convinced. I’ve never bought them. I put my sunblock all over the eye area instead and it’s holding up well.

I bought the ordinary caffiene solution to make the eye area tighter and it does make you look more awake.

Try this eye cream instead, I personally loved it because the result is amazing and instant.

I read an article that claimed that rich eye creams caused bags!!

Light moisturiser gently tapped in is enough. Expecting miracles from rubbing stuff into your face is stupid.

BusterGonad · 09/11/2018 05:54

I've always used one and I rate them highly, facial cream (I believe) is too rich, eye creams should be used sparingly, just the amount similar to a grain of rice, for both eyes, and not in eyelids.

I always used to use eye creams, ranging from cheapo Superdrug to eyewatering Chanel and Elemis. Never noticed any difference bar skin area being more moisturised. (No shit Sherlock given that eye creams generally are just mini versions of the big anti ageing creams)
My conclusion is that they help with puffiness, dark circles, (like any cream with XYZ ingredients in would) but lines and wrinkles? None of the ones I ever tried.

Depends.

There are some ingredients (e.g. squalane, sheabutter) that are brilliant moisturisers and very occlusive, so they are great at locking in hydration from e.g. a hyularonic serum.

If I put those anywhere near the areas on my face with larger pores (e.g. cheeks, nose) I get horrible breakouts. So those ingredients in a moisturiser are just no good for me. I go for a fairly light facial oil there.

But a little bit of one of those in a eye cream. Brilliant. Tap tap tap.

There was a study in Which a few years ago which looked at eye creams, and the testers basically reported back that nothing was any better than the control cream....which was Simple Rich Moisturising Lotion (ie not an eye cream at all). I think it's just personal preference, the only reason I'm tempted by eye creams is in the never ending quest to do something about my dark circles, but often I just use my normal face cream instead.
