Keeping warm while wearing a naice top

I'm terminally cold - for the record, today I was wearing a silk vest, two merino jumpers and hoodie. I have a few nights out coming up, then the usual Christmas nonsense, so I've bought this top. Unfortunately my thermals ruin the line of it Wink. I know there are some other icecubes out there, so what do you wear when you're out of your cocoon?

There really isn’t much you can wear under it as thermal vests tend to have rather high necks. I’d probably wear a knit over it and take it off once I warmed up.

GhostCurry · 06/11/2018 07:14

What about one of those pregnancy belly coverers made of cashmere - it’s like a tube that goes over your bump. They’re stretchy so should fit even if you’re not pregnant?

Penisbeakerismyfavethread · 06/11/2018 07:19

I’d go black cardi and then black leather jacket I think it’s very pretty

hugoagogo · 06/11/2018 08:02

What were you thinking? Shock

il0vew1ne · 06/11/2018 08:38

a black cashmere wrap would look good

Dafspunk · 06/11/2018 08:41

Check out Spanx vests - thin straps, like a second layer of skin and definitely very warm (especially when tucked attractively into big pants).

TacoFlavouredKisses · 06/11/2018 09:47

The M&S Bodysensor cami vest won't show under that and is lovely.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 06/11/2018 10:22

Oh, lots of good ideas, thanks. Maybe the M&S vest with a cashmere cardi and a leather jacket, with a cashmere wrap over that??? (I'm not entirely joking)

I'll have thermal tights on under a leather skirt, so at least my bum will be warm.

GhostCurry, please tell me more about the belly band! I still look pregnant so I'm sure I could swing it Blush

I’ve gone for something similar but with long sleeves. Admittedly we are going to one of the Xmas markets and then for drinks and a meal so I can get away with wearing my thermals under it 😂

autumnwalksguide · 06/11/2018 10:26

google kidney warmers!

Piccalillisnooze · 06/11/2018 10:29

Uniqlo has a princesse tamtam heat tech cami that will go under this. Plus you need a fluffy little cashmere cardi or big scarf (not pashmina) to go over.

Floisme · 06/11/2018 11:11

I wouldn’t go out in anything sleeveless. Admittedly this is partly because my arms are shot but also cos just looking at that top makes me feel cold.
I can’t link at the moment but Whistles have got a lightweight sparkly knit with long sleeves, a deep v neck, and a slouchy shape, room for thermals underneath, 3 times the price of that one but they’ll probably have an offer before long. I’m tempted myself, even though I’ve got enough sparkly tops to last the rest of my life.

Loopytiles · 06/11/2018 11:13

Alcohol?

sizzledrizz · 06/11/2018 11:14

I would wear it with a scarf, my big faux fur coat, and take it off when warmed up

sizzledrizz · 06/11/2018 11:15

Although, I'm northern and hard

xmaskitkat1967 · 06/11/2018 11:19

Not helpful to your question but i love that top (i am permanently hot so struggle to buy clothes in the winter) - what is the fit like - I'm waivering between a Medium and a Large as I am a size 12 but have a broad back and sometimes need to size up on tops as can't bear the fabric touching me too much.

EmmaStone · 06/11/2018 13:31

Snuggly faux furs are the answer - all that polyester is very warm! Loads around at the moment - I bought one from New Look a couple of weeks ago for about £50.

And a Heatek cami. Tucked in.

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 06/11/2018 14:11

xmaskitkat1967, I'd go for the medium. I'm a booby 12/14 and it's fine on me.

I have a faux fur snug but it's a bit too snug these days.... I'll have a look for another.

I would just wear some kind of cardi/shrug (although I know a lot of people do hate these), but then I am fat/northern so I don't really feel the cold. Being perimenopausal also helps!

I say this in all seriousness, but if you are permanently cold, have you had your thyroid checked out? Obviously it's normal to feel the cold when the weather is actually cold, but it's not normal to still be shivering when you've swaddled yourself in loads of layers and positioned yourself next to a radiator!

StateofIndependance · 06/11/2018 16:14

Highly recommend Uniqlo Heattech. They do a cami style vest that wouldn't be visible. I wear it under everything. I'm a cold person too. My look for winter nights out always involves a blazer or jacket that I can keep on indoors!

MotherForkinShirtBalls · 06/11/2018 16:20

State, I completely forgot I have an amazing black velvet blazer from last year that would be fantastic with it! Thank you!

Thyroid perfectly fine... I'm unnecessarily padded too, just never actually warm.

OP posts:
Kochicoo · 06/11/2018 22:20

Not very style and beauty but I wear those stick on heat pads you get for back and neck pain when I know I'm likely to be cold but can't wear really warm clothes Grin

Loveagoodbook · 07/11/2018 22:21

Sorry to gatecrash, Thebluedog, where did you get your top from im looking for long sleeve and sparkly!

herethereandeverywhere · 08/11/2018 08:43

Uniqlo do vests and camis made out of their thermal material (Heatech), shouldn't show unless the front of the V is very low.

pinkground202 · 08/11/2018 08:54

I prefer the M&S Heatgen to the Uniqlo, the M&S fabric feels nicer to me.

I'm like you and wear the regular heatgen most days and the heatgen ultra when it's really cold. I have an ultra on now with a cashmere jumper. My ds is sitting opposite me in a t shirt!
