As in Thinx. Really want to buy these but not sure which type are most effective. Who has tried them, and what are the strong points of each brand?

Just tried WUKA pants and found them excellent. No leakage, could keep them on for a long time. Only thing is that they take ages to dry (lots of layers) and can’t be put in the tumble drier. I had two pairs but this was not enough to keep them in rotation for 3/4 days.

Also, I haven’t had to wear them to work yet but I’m a little unsure about that — doing a full change of the pants could be complicated, and what do you do with the used pair? Might have to double up with the moon cup for heavy days. I’m still learning. But I would definitely recommend, especially for night time. And so much better for the environment.

I've got some from Cheeky Wipes and they're ok. They're a lot cheaper than other ones I was interested in (Thinx and Modi Bodi) although probably not as nice. They are thicker than I expected.

They work well for me. I usually just have one day where I need to use tampons as well.

My biggest problem/conundrum is washing them. As PP said they take a while to dry and also they need a cold wash but on a non-delicate cycle which basically ends up they have a wash cycle all to themselves which feel like such a waste! (If I'm wrong please correct me as I'd like to find a better way). Maybe I just need to buy more pairs so I can get through a whole period on one wash, so to speak.

It's best if you soak them immediately too so I use a small lidded container filled with cold water in the bathroom.

I particularly like them for the days when you're due on or when you think your period has finished but don't want to risk going without protection.

I have three pairs of Thinx. I got stung by customs when I got them but I like them. This was before I read about the company. I perhaps wouldn't have purchased from them if I had been aware of the company's management issues.
The period pants are good, although not generously sized. They hold so much and you are not aware of it. They are particularly great during those times when your flow has stopped a bit but your period hasn't ended.
HOWEVER, and this is more to do with my own body: I am a bit of a 'front bleeder' as in it squidges out of the front of my, er, flaps when I am standing up. I found that I bled over the top of the absorbent area when I was doing a lot of standing and could have done with this area coming a bit higher up. But this is probably more to do with my own body Blush. There is a massive absorbent back coverage area so they are great to sleep in.

Really interested to hear about the Cheeky wipes pants. Had been looking at those as they really are significantly cheaper.

Agree that it's best to rinse/ soak immediately and I also keep a covered plastic tub in the bathroom. I wash the WUKA at 30 degrees with other darks (according to instructions). No doubt they may be stained, but as they're black I cannot see. Tried handwashing but that wasn't successful.

I have Thinx and they have never worked for me. In a short time (within an hour?) they leak at the sides. There's loads of dry space, it's just that it isn't where I need it most. I use them at the end of my period now, they work ok for that.
Like you Hetaera I'm a 'front bleeder' Why is no one catering for our needs? I have to turn my washable pads back to front to get coverage in the right place.

LockedOutOfMN · 06/11/2018 15:14

I'm a front bleeder too so maybe period pants aren't for me. Can you wear a pad inside these types of underwear?

Ooh, really glad someone has asked about these as I've been weighing up the idea too! Will have a Google of the brands mentioned - thanks OP :)

amandadecabernet · 06/11/2018 15:42

Op I sometimes use them with a pad, but they operate like normal pants once you've put a pad in them. Unless you tend to leak around the front of back edge of the pad I guess?
If I knew then what I know now I would have skipped the Thinx and bought more washable pads. But some people swear by them so I guess horses for courses.

I got some from The Pad Lady on Etsy who made me a special front absorbent pair. I wash everything on cold, cotton cycle, so it's not an issue (or with DD's night time nappies but again cold, not delicate).
