Mint Velvet waxed parka - warm enough?

I’ve bought this. It is expensive and I’m wondering if it will be warm enough in the depths of winter. Has anyone got one? It’s flattering and one of the only parkas that doesn’t make me look like a square box. But for the price I’m just not sure.

I have Mint Velvet waxed biker jacket from couple of seasons ago.
Was expensive about 175 I think
Bought to replace a much loved Boden one.
It was rubbish
Lightweight didn't even stand up to light showers.
Hardly worn
Stuck it on this week and the belt loop has broken.
Love the look of MV but quality is dire.
I got a parka in M&S to replace my much loved Whistles one and I would say the Marks' one is better quality.

Wow, thanks bebesequin. I’ve not bought from MV before. I did notice that the chain loop to hang it up by was broken when i got it home so I guess that might be an indication of the poor quality you’ve experienced with yours. Think it might well have to go back. Grrrrr. I tried on the M&S ones and they didn’t suit me but they did look v warm.

I've just bought a really warm Barbour fleecy lined one from country attire in their sale. Much better quality than m.v. or marks.

RyelandSheep · 03/11/2018 21:08

Never thought of Barbour Holey . I’m def going to try looking for something else and returning the MV one

I bought a lovely looking MV parka last year - it cost me over £200, the most I ever spent in a coat as treat for my 50th.

This year I'm gonna flog it on eBay because although it was heavy, it just wasn't warm enough. It really didn't justify the price tag for me.

I bought a khujo coat and it is lovely and warm. A puffa Parka but with a bit of shape.

I just went through a massive research spell on waterproof warm parkas for serious Scottish countryside cold.

I ordered five and tried a lot on shops

Two winners were Didriksons Nadine (looks a million times better in person and it's incredibly warm) and Joules Aspen

RyelandSheep · 04/11/2018 08:54

Right, the MV is going back. Am going into town next week and will try Joules. Lala thanks for sharing the fruits of your research. Snog you’ve confirmed my fears about the MV. Heavy but not as warm as it looks or feels. I like the look of the Khujo (not heard of that make) but don’t really want to order online unless I’ve run out of options in town. Thanks so much for the help all.
