How long will it take for my hair to not look like it's been dunked in a chip pan by day 2?

I've been trying to only was my hair every other day for about 2 weeks, and I'm getting impatient. Will it ever manage washing every other day, or ideally longet, without looking rank?

I sleep with 2 Dutch broads. That has made my day!

Oblomov18 · 02/11/2018 11:00

I've never been able to manage it. I go have very greasy hair.

MrsGollach · 02/11/2018 14:21

I've washed my hair daily for years and years but lately I've been washing it water only on the second day. It works and my hair feels better for it.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 02/11/2018 14:26

Mine never did. For my degree I spent long periods in places with limited water where I'd wash once a week, and it never flipped to magically being less oily. When pregnant I can go 3 or so days without issues, which makes me think it really is about hormones more than sulphate shampoos efx.

I can now last 2 days with blonde highlights and dry shampoo plus the Alberto Balsam tea tree shampoo (recommended on here - and so much cheaper than my previous kerastase!). If my roots have grown back much, it's back to daily washes or lots of ponytails though...

Another Johnsons baby shampoo fan over here. I've never used the body wash though, Charlotte, ill give it a go. I usually use the bright yellow stuff.

As pps have said, you need a silicone free shampoo - Alberto balsam has some great one, redken cleansing crème is great too, but expensive.

Is there any actual scientific evidence to suggest washing too often causes our hair to be greasier? I’ve even tried experimenting washing once a week for a month and my hair did not change. I have used SLS free shampoos too
I presume it’s mostly to do with hormones/genetics

Currently wash three times a week

Use the dry shampoo in the morning, not before bed!

fishonabicycle · 02/11/2018 16:14

If I have my hair up (so I don't touch it) it lasts about 6 days. If it's down o my about 3.

MessySurfaces · 02/11/2018 16:22

If I wash every other day I'm a greaseball and have to wash daily, but if I wash every 5-6 days it's fine. Every 3-4 days is borderline.

PawneeParksDept · 02/11/2018 16:23

I struggle with greasy hair, I mean really. I decided to treat myself to Bumble and Bumble Seaweed Shampoo and Conditioner for my birthday.

It's been AMAZING.

But it's about to run out and it's ££££ And I could cry

I've finally got to this point ... post menopause.
But I still prefer my hair freshly washed. It's never had any sort of treatment or colouring so it's in good condition.

I never use conditioner, hair is greasy enough as it is. Not sure why greasy haired people do?

Good tip to wash hair twice too.

Fstar · 02/11/2018 21:50

Ive got pretty oily skin and hair and always washed everyday. I tried dry shampoo on the second day and by lunch it looked horrid. However i read a tip on here to use the dry shampoo the night before and in the morning of day 2 if needed and it really helps.

ErrolTheDragon · 02/11/2018 22:51
  • I never use conditioner, hair is greasy enough as it is. Not sure why greasy haired people do? *. I've got fine straight hair, grease at the roots flattens it but the ends would be flyaway without conditioner. And the right sort adds body.
