Too old for Jo Loves?

I’ve been eyeing up the Jo Loves advent calendar for a while now. Not had any experience of her range, but just love the sound of everything and feel excited about trying some new stuff. BUT, at 62 am I too old to be delving into this? Is JL aimed at a younger crowd? Any thoughts welcomed as £250 is quite a bit for an advent calendar! ( I could throw any duds in the direction of my dds)..........

I genuinely don’t understand this. It’s a high end perfume and candle range - how can it be aimed at an ‘age’?!

You like it, can afford it? You could be twenty or eleventy! Buy it.

QuaterMiss · 31/10/2018 07:44

This?

It's perfume and candles. I can't believe you're genuinely asking if there is some age limit for perfume. And candles.

Is there some clever joke that I'm missing?

Too old for Jo Loves?
QuaterMiss · 31/10/2018 07:44

Oh ...

Is this an advert??

MissBattleaxe · 31/10/2018 07:48

Jo Loves fragrances are really beautiful and not for a specific age group. You're never too old or young for any perfume.

MissBattleaxe · 31/10/2018 07:49

You know it's Jo Malone MBE right, not some tween blogger called Jo?

brogueish · 31/10/2018 07:52

Is it because its an advent calendar and you think they're just for kids? If so, don't worry. A £250 advent calendar is not aimed at kids.

lurkingfromhome · 31/10/2018 08:40

What on earth do you mean? Too old for a perfume range made by an acclaimed perfumer? It's hardly Britney Spears' Eau de Horrible Chemicals. Although even then, I'd have to say if you like it, wear it. It's perfume.

God, you never stop reading this "Am I too old?" crap on MN. It's so dispiriting.

CantChoose · 31/10/2018 12:27

Oh OP! The Jo Loves packaging is less classically styled than the original Jo Malone was so I can see you might think it's targeted at a younger market. But I think it is fine for all ages - I've not smelled them all of course!

It's Jo Malone CBE not MBE - if you're going to be pissy at least be accurate Hmm

anniehm · 31/10/2018 18:04

If you want it, buy it! I bought my dh a beer advent calendar last year! Can't see many young people affording it

MsNobody · 31/10/2018 20:13

I looked at that advent calendar before and it looks a bit shit. I get that there's a voucher inside but I'd hope for slightly bigger samples behind the door, maybe at least 5 ml...

spanishwife · 31/10/2018 20:17

@QuaterMis
Ding ding ding clever you. Of course it is.

I see cleverly disguised adverts on MN daily!

Anyone starting a thread about a product or a brand and asking a stupid or very open question is a marketer.

BertramKibbler · 31/10/2018 20:19

I can’t imagine a brand like Jo Alice’s doing some dodgy Mumsnet post to advertise.

OP, I don’t think you’re too old. You’re around my mothers age and she likes the samples I’ve passed on to her.

BertramKibbler · 31/10/2018 20:20

Jo Alice’s clearly I meant Jo Loves l. Weird autocorrect

spanishwife · 31/10/2018 20:30

Bertramkibbler

What makes it dodgy? It's incredibly clever - it's got all of us thinking about the brand, giving reviews and some people even visiting the website's to find out more. I work in marketing and I wish Mumsnet was my audience!

They probably use a marketing agency so it's hardly like Jo Malone herself is cackling behind the keyboard

MrsMariaPolouvicka · 01/11/2018 07:35

Well this is the first and only post from the OP, so my money's on a marketing ad too, plus (s)he's not been back.

All we need now is for another "unrelated" poster to pop up with a helpful discount code, to nudge the fence sitters into their purses.

BertramKibbler · 01/11/2018 07:44

Good job bumping the supposed ‘ad’ you’re so annoyed about. Surely leaving it to lie dormant would’ve been more sensible given your opinion or was it more enticing to be ‘right’

I’d love a discount code though!

Makingthebestofthings · 01/11/2018 08:35

Ummm - first time back to this. Just want to say that this is definitely NOT a marketing ploy. I have nothing to do with the Company / marketing etc, etc.. My post was an honest request for opinions, though obviously not interpreted as such on here! Didn’t expect quite a flaming!!! I’ve looked at the Jo Loves site again and decided to go for the pack of samples with the gift certificate for a full bottle. In all honesty I probably don’t need another advent calendar - I already have the Liberty one. Yes, this was my first post, and DEFINITELY my last! Going to hide this thread now...............

A few slightly harsh replies to the OP Hmm

tellmewhenthespaceshiplands · 01/11/2018 10:07

Gaaaah! Pressed post too early.
If you can afford and will enjoy it, get it I say!

dontgobaconmyheart · 01/11/2018 11:31

Some quite harsh replies! OP I actually have to say I absolutely thought the Jo Loves branding was a sort of 'fun' younger edit of the old Jo Malone- aimed at the younger Instagram type market 18-25, and I'm barely tipping 30, and use the brand on occasion. I think it's just how the branding compares.

At the end of the day though it's ballpark the same thing in the bottles and if the money isn't an issue what's the problem. I never buy advent calendars, with scents I just know I won't love most of them, and totting up what you pay relative to what you love just makes it extortionate. Smaller candles never seem to have good throw either. I'd rather go in there and smell a few bits, pick a candle I can light daily, a bubble bath and a perfume I can use daily and treat myself that way if I wanted to do so.
