work suits in summer - do we give up.+ am I scary in a suit.

I have a new managerial role at work and do look younger than my age so often have to dress older which for me is usually a suit.

Have a big day when all eyes are going to be looking on and am a bit nervous, and find that a suit often gives me confidence.

Have been looking at next as they sell teacher suits and I can order online.

I wanted something summery as I have lots of winter suits which to me means linen but will I end up a crumpled mess.

I quite like this suit athough I may get the trousers rather than skirt or mayeb both for flexibilty although it may be a bit stuffy.

I look good in navy so thouught of this one

very sensible but maybe just too dull

quite dull but I suit that neckline

I am a head of year meeting new parents many of whom come have issues with authority and teachers and dp thinks I should avoid the suit as it will make me less approachable and intimidating and while I want to look authoritative I do not want to indimidate and I want to look approachable.

I have just bought this shirt dress and dp says it is smart but friendly or have also just got this this dress which I wear over linen trousers which he says is more my everyday workwear so I will be more comfortable and portrays the real me and is veryapproachable.

So help me look summery, my age, authoritative but approchable.

I am 5 foot 3 and size 16.

I like the first one best, especially with the skirt, I'm not sure it'll look as good with trousers? You might look a bit Matadorish with that jacket and trousers.

Definitely dress to impress, is important. Good shoes too. Would you ever go for the city shorts/jacket thing?

twinsetandpearls · 17/06/2007 16:54

I don't like my legs they are too short for city shorts.

Is matadorish not approachable then?

Hmm, is a good point vis a vis the confidence thing! What's your budget? Do you want it to be black?

By the way, good call on the city shorts thing I think, need to be at least 6ft to feel confident in them I think.

hoxtonchick · 17/06/2007 17:00

i love wrap dresses (but i'm taller than you). maybe with a camisole underneath so there are no flashing issues.

twinsetandpearls · 17/06/2007 17:00

I don't particularly want black as I am naturally a very colourful person.

If I buy in Next as I can order online and if neceaary change at our big store which is open late there is nothing there out of budget.

I do wear a lot of wrap dresses, always has to be a cami or vest underneath.

oooh yes, a wrap dress. You'd feel confident in that wouldn't you?

Jigsaw maybe? For a version of a suit?

popsycal · 17/06/2007 17:02

HAve just realised I never got back to you - sorry
But you did not need my help anyway1

I had the same problem as head of year......look much younger than I am so had the same issues.

I have a few Next suit and some nicely cut trousers which I tended to mix and macth

now I am back to being a lowly teacher again, anything goes

twinsetandpearls · 17/06/2007 17:03

We don;t have a jigsaw, I would imagine the nearest would be Leeds or Manchester. Having not ever bought from Jigsaw for myself itwould also mean buying at leasttwo sizes if I were to order online.

popsycal · 17/06/2007 17:03

oh yes and I ALWAYS wear a vest top under EVERYTHING for work

twinsetandpearls · 17/06/2007 17:03

Don't worry Popsy I did get it!

ahundredtimes · 17/06/2007 17:04

Jigsaw is looong I find, and narrow, if that helps. Bit of a gamble though isn't it.

popsycal · 17/06/2007 17:06

I am glad you got it. I loved being head of year and miss it in many ways - I just had too much going on. Non-sleeping ds2 required me to reduce my hours. It was hard enough to fight for that so there was no fight left in me to get them to let me job share the head of year role.

ENJOY!!!

twinsetandpearls · 17/06/2007 17:07

I have a vague memory of tearfully walking out of jigsaw a few years ago as nothing would fit me.

Dp also bought me £100 worth of Next vouchers when I got the job as he knew I would want a suit.

I am sure popsy I used something you said, either ther fischer data or ECM.

I linked to the wring shirt dress before it is this one but I have not decided if I am keeping it yet.

I like that black linen jacket and it looks as if it won't be as clammy as the others. I'm a head of year and spend most of my day running around like an idiot, so I have to wear things that won't make me too hot.

I must admit, I rarely wear a suit though. I favour linen trousers with a wrap dress over, or a knee length silk skirt and 3 quarter sleeved top.

Quite fancy trying city shorts though but what would you wear on top?

janeite · 17/06/2007 17:31

And I LOVE that black shirt dress!

twinsetandpearls · 17/06/2007 17:34

I have just tried the black dress on again and the colour drains me and because I have a bit of a tummy the bow sits on it.

OP posts:
twinsetandpearls · 17/06/2007 17:36

I wear lots of suits in the winter, mainly next and monsoon and then in the summer it is mainly linen trousers with long top or dress.

second janeite's running around thing. I wore a pedometer one day and I did several miles!!!
