I am 32 and get my fixed braces off on Friday I can't wait, it's the best thing I have ever done for myself.

You have possibly 40 more years of teeth, why not have teeth you are happy with. Go for it!!!

Aprilislonggone · 29/10/2018 15:02

Dentist said about £1500 for the metal ones or 3k for white.
Would have to be the cheaper option as I would have guilt spending so much on myself.
My family /dc do have not a single photo of me as I can't smile due to feeling so crap about them! Perfect shape just crooked /cramped. Dd is getting hers after Christmas so would be nice to support each other I suppose!

Has it been tough going having them on?

DamnCommandments · 29/10/2018 15:07

My mum has needed to have one in her late 60s - she broke a tooth and there's no way to replace it with the rest so crooked. A brace was the only solution. I think what I'm trying to say is that it's not purely cosmetic - it can help with oral hygiene, and make it easier to care for your teeth as you age too.

Sicario · 29/10/2018 15:08

Yes and yes. I was 43. Met a really lovely orthodontist in a weird stroke of fate. The whole process took about a year (less than was originally estimated) and I was (and remain) thrilled with the results. Should have done it years ago but never felt that bothered by my wonky teeth until I saw a photograph that was, shall we say, less than flattering. Best money I ever spent. My "train tracks" inspired a friend in her late 60s to do the same thing. Go for it!

MrsNacho · 29/10/2018 15:11

It hasn't been the most fun I have ever had, they hurt at first and were uncomfortable at each tightening but you soon get used to it and it is so worth it.

ImperfectTents · 29/10/2018 15:21

Do people end up talking to your teeth?

Aprilislonggone · 29/10/2018 15:46

I am hoping they will kerb my munching also- £££ creeping on these past few years!!

I never experienced that at all. The odd child asked why I had braces but adults never seemed bothered. I have noticed loads of adults with them too.
I was single a lot during my time with them and never had a problem attracting dates either.

ImperfectTents · 29/10/2018 17:17

Right I am making my appointment tomorrow

Fstar · 29/10/2018 17:22

My friend has the metal ones, looks fine, she hasnt had any bad experiences with them. About the same age as you. If its causing issues for you, go for it.

April241 · 29/10/2018 17:25

I’m 32 and got my braces off in August, really happy!!! I wanted my teeth straightened for years and finally decided to go for it as were getting married in Feb

Sicario · 29/10/2018 18:35

Hey, OP. I was kind of hoping for the same, as though it would somehow emulate having my mouth wired shut :) No such luck! The little rubber bands stain very easily with heavily coloured foods like curry and ketchup (and red wine). Not a great look. But bands are changed at each visit so night before you can go crazy and turn up looking like Dracula.

ElfrideSwancourt · 29/10/2018 19:39

The metal brackets are much better for your teeth than tooth-coloured ones.

Go for it OP - I'm a dentist and have referred quite a few adults for ortho and they've all been delighted with the results.
