Nose piercing- yes or nose?

I’m 40 and I’m planning on a little mid-life crisis; I want to get my nose pierced. Problem is I had it done a few times back in the 90s when piercing guns were generally used. Each time the piercing got infected and I’d end up having to remove the stud.

Things have moved on a bit now from piercing guns. Just wondering if anyone has any advice. I have sensitive skin...

Needle piercing at a Tattoo/Piercing studio.

Can you get the same area re-pierced or is it too fibrous.

Minionmomma · 27/10/2018 18:16

There’s scar tissue both nostrils but it’s been 20 years or more since the last piercing. Could I go straight to a ring? Or does it have to be a stud?

It can be a ring but not recommended.

I got mine pierced at 40yo. Went to a great place in London which I’d recommend if you’re near London. Went straight to a ring, piercer pulled a bit of a face but I insisted and he agreed!

Def go to a proper piercing/tattoo studio.

I got mine done at 40. I love it. Go for it.

Had mine done on my 48th birthday. Needs to be done with a needle and medical grade titanium stud. Know a really good place in Manchester.

I’m gonna do it! Do you have sensitive skin? Was it ok?

I've had mine done since I was a teenager and still wear it when I haven't lost the stud most of the time.

I wouldn't think it's very mid life crisis though almost everyone has one these days...

Oooh. I’m thinking the same. Was planning to get it done where I had my recent daith piercing done. I had it done with white gold jewellery and had far less trouble than ones done with steel or titanium. Will do the same. Pier we said chose jewellery that will move as little as possible. That’s why rings are generally not great. My daith is a ring but the design stops it moving much.

I’ve just had the top of my ear pierced and was thinking about having my nose done. As others have said, go to a proper tattooist/piercer

TidyLike · 28/10/2018 08:36

Do it! Talk to a piercer about your preferences re ring vs stud. I had a nostril piercing in the 90s, which has now closed up. Got my septum done a couple of years ago and love it.

astridforty · 28/10/2018 08:46

Definitely do it. I did at 38 when I moved out of a customer facing job so felt work couldn’t object.

I was worried about infection and bumps but was lucky and it healed perfectly. I absolutely love it.

Definitely a needle piercing at a reputable piercer.

I have very sensitive skin (can only wear stainless steel necklaces as everything else causes a reaction). My piercings are all stainless steel or titanium rings and have been fine. Lots of warm salt water for cleaning, no twisting!

TidyLike · 28/10/2018 13:51

Re cleaning piercings: I read an article by an experienced piercer/tattooist who said that the best cleaning method he has done is to use plain soap and water once or twice a day. When it's soapy, jiggle the piercing around to encourage some of the soap into the piercing and move it around, then rinse. It needs to be ordinary bar soap, not liquid soap or shower gel etc. I have used this method on septum, 2 daith, snug, and scaffold piercings, all of which healed with no problems (except 1 daith that had to be removed, but nothing to do with my maintenance of it). So much easier than salt water as i just do it in the shower.

This might be another reason OP had a bad experience with nose piercings in the 90s ... IIRC we were told to rotate them (a no-no except when it's wet and being cleaned) and to clean with surgical spirit, which is rather to harsh

bonzo77 · 28/10/2018 15:40

Yes, my piercer said not to move the jewellery at all. And cleaning was only to keep the jewellery clean. “Clean and dry” she repeated. And not to touch it apart from an ear bud to clean and dry it.

MrMeSeeks · 28/10/2018 15:56

Iv had my done 4 times ( fell out, took them out for work) so had scar tissue.
This last time i had it done with a needle( yes made my eye weep) but i’ve had no problems at all ( and i had few problems and painwhen i had thrm done with a gun)

MrMeSeeks · 28/10/2018 15:57

Cool/tepid salt ( sea not table) water a few times a day.

HisBetterHalf · 28/10/2018 16:48

Have never had an infection with mine
