Hair so thin after second baby

I used to have such thick and lovely hair. But since having and breastfeeding my second baby (in two years). I have lost so much thickness. It's really flat, dull, thin and ratty. I had it cut shorter but now I just have thin and shorter hair :-(

I've been thinking about getting hair extensions just for thickness and a tiny bit of length until my hair starts to (hopefully) grow back. Would this be crazy? Would they damage my already delicate hair?

Will it thicken up once I stop breastfeeding?

You should see your gp because you can develop hormone problems after having a baby.

The hair could be a symptom of an underlying condition.

Namechanger55555 · 27/10/2018 14:08

Oh really? I had no idea. I know it's normal to loose hair after birth. But it feels like I've lost a lot more than with my first pregnancy.

I wondered if it's the breastfeeding hormone? As I didn't breastfeed my first for this long.

Don’t worry OP it will come back .
I BF DS 1 for 18 months and 2 years later I BF DS2 for 2 years and my thick wavy hair was wrecked . My hairdresser kindly told me it was the worst case he had ever seen !
When it started to grow back I had a defined Pixi cut growing underneath my longer usual style , giving loads of root lift for a while !
It returned to normal and remained so until menopause and has thinned slightly but is still quite a mop

I know how it feels! I tried everything but nourkrin really helped me a few years ago. Also more recently my periods were heavy & I found out I was slightly aneamic after kids so upped my red meat intake & took floricene iron supplement (non constipating). It worked really well but I did put weight on as it made me hungry!

Not an expert, but have read that you can be vitamin d deficient after pregnancy. Definitely worth seeing your GP for blood tests.

@SpeckledyHen
When did you notice your hair growing back? Was it after you finished breastfeeding your baby?

That's interesting @Stresshead123 I have always been a little bit anaemic. Perhaps some iron supplements would be a good idea.

I'll also look up vitamin D deficiency @dianat1969

Yeah I was always slightly anemic also from being a teenager. The floricene when you read it can see how it works as it explains about how much you need to get good hair growth, it was the best out of everything I tried & worked super fast.

Breastfed for 2.5 years. I'm surprised i'm not bald. The shedding was unbelievable but gp wouldn't do anything because I didnt have bald patches. My hair is thin and short.

Period also became very heavy as soon as I stopped breastfeeding.

Lulutheboss · 27/10/2018 20:24

It might also have thinned because of the super hot summer.
I was complaining to my hairdresser today that my hair has been falling out (not baby related). She said lots of people have experienced the same thing.

My gp said to take a silica supplement and it worked for me. It halted the hair loss and before long I could see regrowth.

Namechanger55555 · 27/10/2018 21:48

I've read mixed things about Viviscal. And it contains silica. I'll have a look, perhaps there is a cheaper version 😀

I breast fed my second DS for about 9 months. He's 21 months now and I'm just seeing new hair growth coming through. I'm developing a mullet 😂. Will be nice when it's all grown out hopefully.

Polkapjs · 27/10/2018 22:09

I liked Viviscal. Worked for me and I only bought 3 months’ worth

Beautifullymixed · 27/10/2018 22:10

Silica and biotin supplements.
Also ensure your iron, b vits, and vitamin d3 are sufficient too.
I suffer from fibroids and am anemic too, I managed to halt my hair shedding by ensuring I took these supplements, and ate protein rich foods.

Namechanger55555 · 29/10/2018 22:09

Has anyone tried Viviscal? It's so expensive and I've read good things about it.
