can anyone recommend some subtle make up stuff for early teen dd

Hi

My dd has started wearing make up at weekends and quite a lot of it. Whilst part of me is a bit 'you can't wear it, you look lovely as you are anyway', I do appreciate that this is part of growing up and wanting to fit in.

Atm, she is using some very heavy foundation given to her by a friend in the wrong shade and highlighting her nose with eyeshadow (apparently, it's necessary to highlight one's nose - is it?!) and tbh, it doesn't look good at all.

I wanted to buy her some not-too-expensive but decent (preferably subtle stuff) and wondered where I could look/what brands might be good. I don't really wear make up so am not familiar. I'm definitely thinking light coverage if possible...

TIA

My older DD likes the colour match foundation from Boots. She uses the airbrush foundation and it's about £16 a bottle. I wear the colour match stuff myself and use the ultra light liquid stuff but that probably doesn't have the right coverage for teen skin.

Younger DD is the makeup expert of this family. She taught herself using YouTube videos. She wears Superdrug own brand foundation and loves it.

Maybeline and Loreal do a range of shades for foundations. Not all of them are heavy.
You can also get a palette with contour colours and highlighter in one so thry can do whatever it is teens do with them.

The contour/highlighter Instagram ready makeup has actually prompted a line (but I can't remember the brand) called Insta ready. It seems like it's all step by step how to do things.

My DD is a make up junky and has a lot of ridiculously expensive make up. Of cheaper brands she seems to rate nyx at (only large) Boots. Definitely a young brand which mates will probably recognise/approve and not everything is subtle(!), but it’s a staffed counter so you’ll be able to get advice and they do a lot of highlighting and contouring type palettes. They do a dupe of Anastasia brow whiz - a brow pencil - for £9 which I recommend if your DD is a fan of exaggerated brows.

What kind of relationship do you have with your DD? Sounds to me like a lovely opportunity for a special mum and daughter shopping trip to Boots or Superdrug. She won't want to clog up her beautiful skin so it's also important to make sure she has the right removers too.

Thanks for your replies. Sicario, we have a good one generally, although things are not always smooth! Agree does sound like a lovely opportunity to spend some time together and good point on the removers!

Hi I would go to boots, they have a brand called NYX and the quality is as good as MAC. I'm a makeup artist and I have a lot of of NYX products, another really good place is KIKO.
Foundation: NYX can't stop wont stop foundation £15
Eyeshadows: from NYX or kiko around £2.50 to £8 in Kiko or £5 ish in NYX
Lipstick: go to Kiko 100%! As good as Chanel said by my Chanel colleague so now most of the beauty consultants where I am where Kiko Halloween Wink £4 ish
Blusher: NYX or Revolution Blushing Hearts (a copy of too faced and a very good quality one) its from most superdrugs in a Heart Shaped box £5
Eyebrow pencils: NYX or Kiko. Both as good as each other. The gel/powder compacts last a lot longer than the pencils, I use the NYX one £6
Powder: NYX No Filter powder £11
Highlighter: the same revolution ones in the heart box! £5

Ask me anything, I love researching for the best quality/price!

make up revolution and make up academy from superdrug are great for beginners. prices start from £1 for blushers, lipsticks and eyeliners and palettes of eyeshadows, contour kits, concealer etc are between £4 and £8. quality is great too.
