Does anyone else wear lipstick this way?

I am randomly fascinated by other women's lipstick and by lipstick in general. I love watching people apply it on trains and in the ladies'.

I've not seen anyone else do it the way I do, though. I take a reasonable quality untinted lip balm like Burt's Bees or similar, nothing fancy, and apply that. I then slick my lipstick, often quite a bold colour, on top.

I find it gives a softer effect. Am I a weirdo to wear lipstick this way??

No

CherryBlossom23 · 26/10/2018 17:14

No, I do that too because my lips are dry as hell Grin

SherlockHolmes · 26/10/2018 17:14

I wear mine as blusher, as well as lipstick.

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 26/10/2018 17:26

Sherlock I like a bright red and tend to flush up naturally so I'd probably look like I had a brandy problem if I did that Grin

Exactly how I do it. Stops the lipstick looking dry or flaky within minutes as my lips are so dry. I'm never without lip balm.

If you wear a lot of bright/red lipstick you should do this anyway so they don't stain your skin

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 26/10/2018 20:37

does your lipstick not slide off in 10mins though?

Racecardriver · 26/10/2018 20:39

That’s pretty common isn’t it? I don’t wear lipstick because I end up looking like a child but I have been told that one should wear Vaseline or something similar as a primer.

Doesn't it just wear off really quicky? Why not buy a moisturising, light lipstick so you don't have to?

blueshoes · 26/10/2018 21:29

I have done this for years. I use MAC lipstick which is dryer than most, I am told, so the lip balm gives it moisture. I also wear a bold shade and the lip balm allows me to apply a thinner more translucent layer of lipstick.

Sinead100 · 26/10/2018 21:32

Err I thought you were meant to do this? I apply lip balm when I'm applying moisturiser, let that sink in for a few mins, then apply face makeup and lip primer, then let that sink in for a bit and by the time the rest of my face is finished, I apply my lipstick and it goes on smoothly and lasts all day!

CookPassBabtridge · 26/10/2018 21:40

I do this all the time! Definitely gives a softer effect as it's just adding a bit of colour to my lipbalm (vaseline in my case) But I find it wears off really quick.
If I want a stronger look I wear lipstick first and then vaseline in top, and it lasts a long time.

EnidButton · 27/10/2018 03:01

I always do that. Not loads, I blot it a bit before the lipstick. It's like a lip primer. Fan of the yellow Babylips balm.

Plus you can put the balm over the lipstick when it starts to look faded or a bit dry later in the day. Freshens it up a lot and you can do it quickly and without a mirror.

sofato5miles · 27/10/2018 03:12

I never prime my lips with balm or primer but do wear two lipsticks as I favour strong reds. I apply a nude shade (Not, by Chanel or my current fave Pillow Talk by Charlotte Tilbury) then use red and blend them in casual lip smacking fashion.

sofato5miles · 27/10/2018 03:13

Boy by Chanel not "not".
