Does anyone remember that fabric that changes colour depending on what angle you look at it from?

I want to find a shirt in this, for my father. I know, it's not really style, but I don't know where to put it.

I've tried looking for iridescent shirts, but that seems to just generally mean shiny shirts (and women's ones too, helpfully).

Anyone have any suggestions?

Oh, and just to keep things easy, I need it in a 2XL sort of size.

Yes, I was expecting polyester.

I'm disappointed you didn't do anything iridescent for your show, though.

NQC. Mod clothin.com. Thats where you'll find your shirt. Sorry i will not attempt a link. I'd be here all day.

NotQuiteCockney · 18/06/2007 10:55

Sixer - someone already gave me that shop. Unfortunately, they seem to be designed for the lettuce-fed mod, not the (ahem) larger gentleman.

No, I lie, I found that place, by searching for 'tonic'. Still, yes, absolutely the right clothes, also very reasonably priced, but not big enough.

Hmmm, I think I need to put 'tonic' in the search terms on ebay ...

Oh, the shirts can have patterns on them. And be any colour. It really doesn't matter.

NQc,how much are you prepared to pay for this shirt?I can make shirts,long/short sleeves, tunic style, don't do formal collars yet though.
If I have a look for fabric do you want me to make one?
You're looking at 4 hours work,so thats £40 plus materials.

sugarfree · 19/06/2007 17:54

Hang on, Ill get some pictures up for you to see what I can do.

That could totally work. I haven't tried looking at fabric - where would my best bet be?

(I actually have an idea for clothes for myself, so might talk to you about that anyway - you know that West African lovely cotton fabric with the alarming colours? I want a shirt in that stuff ...)

OP posts:

Sounds good,the African cotton,i mean,I am a sucker for loud one-off shirts.
About to start one covered with carp.

I digress, fabric for Dad's shirt.Have you thought about sari shops? A shirt made of sari fabric could be very cool indeed Otherwise, market stalls or you can get some stuff in big department stores. I personally wouldn't buy off the internet unless I was desperate and I knew exactly what I was getting, its better to feel fabric.

NotQuiteCockney · 19/06/2007 20:06

I am in East London, can have a look. We have loads of African fabric shops, must be some with sari fabric, too.

What time frame are we looking at? (Where are you?)

I am aiming for early August - if we can't make it this year, we can do it next, anyway. Arse, will need measurements, can maybe get from my sister.

I'll get a pic tomorrow of some of the adult shirts I've done.

NotQuiteCockney · 19/06/2007 20:08

The boy's shirt looked lovely. I'm not looking for a dress shirt, I know the details on those are killer. Short sleeves, quite simple, is perfectly lovely. Probably synthetic, but loud, no doubt. It will be big, but not comedy huge.

NotQuiteCockney · 19/06/2007 20:08

Oh, yes, how many metres will I need? Yards? Metres? I haven't bought fabric in forever ...

OP posts:
NotQuiteCockney · 19/06/2007 20:09

He is about a '2XL'. Maybe a 50" chest? Not sure.

OP posts:
sugarfree · 19/06/2007 20:14

I can do it by beginning of August but will need fabric and measurements asap.
I'm in Portsmouth but I've made an Edwardian made to measure evening dress via post, before so a shirt won't be a problem.
I'll need collar and chest and if his tummy is bigger than chest I'll need tummy too (not waist, biggest bit of torso)If this is a surprise get her to measure a shirt that he already wears.

sugarfree · 19/06/2007 20:16

Probably about 3-3.5 metres.

NotQuiteCockney · 19/06/2007 20:19

Ok, I'll have a dig for fabric this week or weekend, and see where I get to. If i can't sort it this week, we can try for next year.
