Gel nails off (gross photo)

I've been having gel toe nails applied every month since the spring.
I've taken them off today for their autumn test and they are revolting. Cracked tips, white spots and deep ridges. Is this normal or have I got a fungal infection?

Pretty normal I think!

singmysongtoo · 26/10/2018 12:57

Thanks thinking, I definitely need to take a rest from polish.

OP, you say that you have been having the gel polish applied, but that you took it off yourself: could the damage be due to incorrect removal, as the polish itself shouldn't cause damage.
Sally Hansen Gel Rehab is good stuff.

File them, buff them and sort out your cuticles and they'll look much better.

PennyMordauntsLadyBrain · 26/10/2018 18:01

How did you take it off- did you peel the gel?

I’ve been getting shellac regularly for the last year at least, and my nails only ever look like that if I pick and peel the polish off myself. When the nail tech does it, they just look like normal nails.

My nails always look awful after I've had gel taken off

youare · 26/10/2018 18:17

I actually think they look pretty good for post-gel nails

Get yourself some OPI Nail Envy. It'll sort them out in no time.

I'd say it's quite normal, but a bit of TLC (buff and file) will work wonders, plus copious application of CND Rescue Rx. It's amazing stuff and really helps my nails when I take gel off.

singmysongtoo · 26/10/2018 20:37

Thanks for the replies.
I half removed the gels with acetone then scraped the last bits off
Have ordered CND rescue and a buffer.
Glad it doesn't seem to be fungal, apparently it's impossible to cure.

It’s the scraping. You never, ever scrape gel polish off a nail.

It’s like not feeding a gremlin after midnight. You can try it but it won’t end well.
