Very petit little girl who can’t keep tights up!

Hi all, my little girl is 2 3/4 but only in size 12-18 months clothes. She is fully potty trained and I can’t find tights anywhere that are small enough around the bum area. Understandably they all accommodate for a nappy but are so bulky on her that I can pull them up to her chest and they are so loose they just fall down. Has anyone else overcome this issue? Thanks

Not had this problem myself but what about pants over the tights?Or could you substitute leggings?

CherryPavlova · 24/10/2018 06:17

Leggings and same colour socks

randomsabreuse · 24/10/2018 06:23

Try 9-12? Or new 12-18s My 3 yo is in 2-3 tights, and they are fine (If baggy at the ankles) where most trousers/leggings try to fall down. Tights seem to stretch to accommodate nappies rather than being big at the start.

Can't wear skirts at all - 12-18 rotates in place while being rather short. Trousers all pull down, Primark skinnies in 2-3 vaguely work (sadly) but usually lives in dresses and leggings - pinafore for preschool

Pants over tights is a good idea but I've only found mothercare and Boots to sell pants small enough for her and they are still baggy. I've tried 9-12 months tights but the leg isn't long enough and so the crotch is mid way between her knees and bum (poor girl - not comfy or a great look!). I think leggings are our only option.

yeah leggings.
I cant keep tights up either tbh

Hitsnooze · 24/10/2018 11:19

I have this same problem with my 2nd percentile 2 year old. I find Primark the best fit since she's been out of nappies. For leggings, Mark's and Spencer's

TidaQuel · 24/10/2018 11:21

I have to tighten my daughters waist on her pyjamas with a hairband, they just fall straight down otherwise.

randomsabreuse · 24/10/2018 17:57

If the tights have a waist band or space to fold over see some extra elastic in. Issue is slight toddlers have flat buttocks and no hips so tights don't stay well at the best of times.

Primark do some 12-18 pants, after washing they shrink quite well!

TammyL · 24/10/2018 18:06

Ooh I'll try Primark. Leggings have always been ok on her but have had to take in her pjs and never found a pair of trousers that stay up. She lives in dresses normally so have my fingers crossed for primark!

I was going to suggest knickers over the top! I find H&M knickers come up really small - my 3 yo is wearing size 4-6yo.

For trousers have you tried the French brand Vertbaudet? Their clothes come up ridiculously small and they also do trousers in 3 different waist sizes so you can buy slim waist trousers which might stay up!

Chocolatedeficitdisorder · 24/10/2018 19:05

My Dd was also a very slim child and I found that the (sometimes random!) clothes they sold in ALDI always fit well, she had several pairs of leggings from there which lasted ages.

randomsabreuse · 24/10/2018 19:11

Good point. Aldi tights worked well, and we are currently ok with Matalan in 2-3. M&Co less successful.

Still got some 18-24s in circulation at 3 and a bit - but grey school type tights start at 2-3. Highly recommend pinafore when uniform becomes a thing!

2pointfourmonkeys · 24/10/2018 19:13

Have you tried H&M? My very slim child pretty much only wears bottoms from there as its the only place than does narrow enough clothes (particularly tights and leggings). GAP was good too when she was small, i don't know if its the cut thats changed across the range or just because she is in bigger sizes now, but they aren't as good anymore ☹️

Leggings with an adjustable waist or thicker footless tights (Boden ones are brilliant) - they have much more grip than normal tights on the leg and waist
