Extremely 'wet' foundation please for really quite dry skin

Hello all,
Recommendations valued for a slight to medium coverage foundation suitable for pretty dry skin. I'm in my early 40s and don't need a lot of coverage, but would like something that doesn't 'drag' when putting on dry skin. I'm trying to deal with the skin with moisturisers and oils, but will need a wetty foundation anyway. I loved a tinted foundation made for summertime that I bought two summers ago (writing rubbed off tube), but nowhere seems to make it anymore. I'm allergic to Olay and Garnier things, so none of that, ta!

I think you need to address your skincare first. Also try using a good primer for dry skin otherwise your skin will suck the oils from your makeup and it with look dry or disappear.

Another good tip I can give you is get an oil you like, Argan or jojoba is good and mix one or two drops in with your foundation before you apply

Boots No.7 tinted moisturiser (it's called City something) is good - I use it all the time. They also do a really nice foundation (called... er, something) which comes in a bottle with a dropper. That's very wet but sets nicely.

BeautifulComicalThings · 23/10/2018 23:49

Mac face & body is a really watery, thin foundation with a nice dewy finish but I think it's £20+! I have dry skin and Bourjois healthy mix serum has never failed me tbh and it £11 ish. Would also really recommend La Roche Posay Cicaplast moisturiser for dry skin (£6.50 in Boots)

Ollivander84 · 23/10/2018 23:51

Makeup revolution pro drops work well on me (retinol user so have occasional flaky skin)

BeautifulComicalThings · 23/10/2018 23:53

A few people have suggested The Ordinary serum foundation but found that it massively clung to dry patches and almost 'separated' on my skin if that makes sense! Shame as it's so cheap

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 24/10/2018 07:07

I have skin like yours OP- I am currently using L'Oreal Pro Glow infallible- it's really nice for the money-I also have Bourjois Health Mix (ordinary Health Mix, not the "serum" one- I've used both but the serum one is slimy)

These are both good, and cheap, but not as good as Maybelline dream satin liquid, which is something I'll never be without- it's very thin and liquidy, though you can build it up- I tend to use it as a top layer tbh, as it makes your skin feel so smooth and silky.

The N7 instant radiance that someone mentioned is also pretty good.

BookMeOnTheSudExpress · 24/10/2018 07:11

PS also agree that it's worth ramping up the skincare, serum, oils, a heavy duty moisturiser.

Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue is brilliant. I know it's over your limit but it really is great for very dry skin.
My skin is exactly like yours & I've bought 5/6 of these over the years.

Don't know if you're interested in skincare but this stuff has really changed my skin:
https://www.stratiaskin.com/products/liquid-gold

I use it as a serum under my moisturizer.

Good luck!!

True Match rArely mentioned but it’s so lovely. Very fluid. I alternate with YSL Touche Eclat foundation. True Match similar to Healthy Mix.

Think your probably referring to No 7 airbrush away. It's great light to medium coverage and dewy. I'm currently using the No 7 Match Made foundation drops which is brilliant.

OP, please avoid doublewear as a PP suggested (no offence intended PP) but it does not blend into dry patchy skin. It is also £££, however I've been told that there is a 'light' version but due to my experience with DW I kept running!

WhatsGoingOnEh · 24/10/2018 10:05

@AllDriedOut Yes! It's Airbrush Away. I really like it - good coverage but blendable.

butterry · 24/10/2018 10:25

I have really dry skin and eczema and I much prefer a cream foundation to a liquid formula as I find it easier to blend and doesn't go streaky or settle in dry patches. I use Hourglass stick foundation and love it. Moisturise well first and make sure you exfoliate so there are no flaky dry bits for foundation to clump on.

BrightLightsAndSound · 24/10/2018 10:34

Try garniers BB cream

I have dry patches of skin, only foundation ( and i’ve wasted so much money trying others) and i’ve had no problems.

Covergirl Vitalist Healthy Elixir Foundation is amazing. Buy on eBay if not stocked in shops where you are.

rainbowtrain · 24/10/2018 20:16

Mac face and body!!
The only foundation that looks natural and fresh on my dry skin.

lovingmatleave · 24/10/2018 20:37

Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude Water Fresh make up. as the title suggests its watery consistency but gives a lovely finish. £33 per bottlebut lasts ages. Ask for samples first to try. Used to use Double Wear normal one but reached mid 40s and got dry skin and it was just too thick and not bendable enough.

Beautifullymixed · 24/10/2018 20:47

I love maybelline fit me the dewy one.
Either called luminous and smooth, or dewy and smooth.
Not easy to get in the UK, but I order from amazon.

It's really hydrating and blends like a dream.
My skin is oily yet dehydrated, and prone to flakiness and dry patches.
This foundation smoothes over them, leaving my skin smooth and hydrated.
It is medium coverage, but can be built up, or sheered out with oil, or moisturiser.

I set with powder, and it lasts all day.
Brilliant value, and a wide variety of shades.

Beautifullymixed · 24/10/2018 20:48

I've also heard good things about maybelline dream satin foundation as well.
Especially for the smooth, radiant finish.
That's on my list to try.

I’m a similar age and it sounds like we have the same type of skin issues. I’ve tried most of the foundations already mentioned and would until recently said the L’Oréal pro glow was the best but I’ve just bought the Bobbi brown skin foundation (not the long wear one) and it is amazing. Blends really well and doesn’t go patchy at all, which is amazing as many foundations cling to areas I don’t normally consider dry like my cheeks. It actually seems too runny when you squirt it out the bottle but works really well with a brush or fingers.

Bobbi Brown are pretty good for samples so it might be worth a visit to the counter. I found the shades pretty good too, I’m very pale but have a neutral skin tone and got a perfect match.

I think this foundation is pretty good and is almost a dupe for the Charlotte Tilbury foundation. I use it in summer but can’t in winter as my forehead gets so dry it makes me look like I have scales 🤢

Haffiana · 25/10/2018 16:26

Fourthing (or is it fifthing!!) Mac Face and Body.

Use fingers to apply - it is water based and quite different to most other foundations in the way it goes on.

DamsonWhine · 25/10/2018 17:44

I’ve just been looking at this recently. Pro Glow doesn’t have the shades for me and I’ve been finding my usual Stay Perfect Superlihht a bit ashy.

I’m currently impressed by Clinique Even Better Glow and trying to decide between two shades.
