My poor dry skin! Please help!

I’ve always been reasonably lucky with my skin, no teenage acne, still no wrinkles at nearly 31, but over the last few years my skin seems to have got more and more dry, particularly two round patches either side of nose. I react badly to a lot of skin products for body and face so I’m careful with what I use. Ive been through various natural/gentle ranges and now generally wash my make up off with either coconut oil and a soft flannel, or Superdrug vitamin e or sensitive micellar water and conditioning cleanser. I’ve stuck to Glossier Priming Moisturiser Rich for the last 4/5 months as it seemed to work well but now the the dry patches keep coming back. I’ve been through various Superdrug moisterisers and don’t love them. The patches are almost painful and make up on top looks awful and dry.

What can I use to make this dry skin go away? Preferably cruelty free and not too expensive! Thank you.

Do u use any face masks? Lush have amazing ones and they last ages, i buy the coffee one x

Angelcd · 22/10/2018 11:01

Lush do moisterisers too, cruelty free, not cheap but not too expensive x

DailyMailcanfuckthefuckoff · 22/10/2018 11:04

Coming here to say (once again!) Lush Dream Cream - it saved my poor skin! I get bad ezcema and very dry patches around my face in winter months, what with all the indoor heating. Dream Cream sorts it in 2 days, and a pot lasts for months and months.

IAmGrootGrootGroot · 22/10/2018 11:19

Rosehip oil. Buy the trilogy one from Holland & Barrett.
Your dry patches will be gone pretty much overnight.

BigStripeyBastard · 22/10/2018 12:11

Try a hyaluronic serum. Clarins does a Hydraessentiel Biphase Serum which is brilliant but fairly expensive, I think its about £42.
The Ordinary does a marine hyaluronics one which I find to be almost as good, I'm not sure how much it is but its definitely under a tenner.
There are loads of them about nowadays, check out Superdrug or Boots.
Put it on under your usual moisturiser.

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 22/10/2018 17:36

Thanks all.
I used Dream Cream and Celestial for ages and they stopped working. They just seem to sit on top. I might try and see if they’re better now though.
I’ve tried oils, lots of Neal’s Yard ones, they feel nice at the time but doesn’t seem to penetrate.
My skin seems to react badly to all the Ordinary things, including the Hyaluronic serum. Clarins unfortunately test on animals but I will have a look around for other serums.

Aveeno Colloidal Oats CREAM. Not lotion. Miraculous!

stayfit · 22/10/2018 18:06

+1 to aveeno, amazing stuff

gamesconsoler · 22/10/2018 18:13

I have dry skin and use this:

www.fragrancedirect.co.uk/kamill-sensitive-hand-and-nail-cream-100ml-0045265.html

I know it's hand cream, but I use it on my face and I don't react to it! I picked it up because the tagline said "extra sensitive care for very sensitive skin." A little goes a long way. Works for me and only 99p! If you're near a Poundstretcher, they sell it there.

frugalkitty · 22/10/2018 18:15

Was going to say Lush Celestial, but if it's not working then definitely try Aveeno cream as mentioned above.

onlygirlinthehome · 22/10/2018 18:21

Good old fashioned blue pot Nivea works wonders for me. I use it head to toe.

BowiesJumper · 22/10/2018 18:29

Eucerin 5% urea face moisturiser. Aveeno doesn’t work for me when I have really dry patches.

ArabellaUmbrella · 22/10/2018 19:49

Are you exfoliating? I get two dry patches of skin either side of my nose, basically I give them a really good scrub with a flannel when I wash my face, then moisturise. Disclaimer, I am not a beautician!! But it works for me.

IsTheRainEverComingBack · 22/10/2018 21:04

I exfoliate when I can but as my skin is sensitive it tends to make it worse. I do it gently with a flannel when I shower.

I’m sorry this is a pricier brand (but it is cruelty free and v natural) I have found Elemis procollagen moisturiser really helps my dry skin.

diamondsandrose · 22/10/2018 23:26

Have you been to the GP?

Sounds like eczema, around the nose is a common area. You might need steroid/hydrocortisone cream

All these perfumed creams etc and scrubbing may be contributing to the soreness

Thistly · 22/10/2018 23:28

Weleda skin food

TheVanguardSix · 22/10/2018 23:32

I swear by Lush Ultrabland cleanser. Lush Ultrabalm is my next purchase.

BoudicasBoudoir · 23/10/2018 09:12

I have dry patches on my face too. They can get very sore, bumpy and red if I’m not careful. The winter is particularly difficult. After several years of trial and error, and not getting on with oils, either, my top recommendations are:
Dermalogica Gentle Cream exfoliant. Works without scrubbing, because I have sensitive skin and don’t do scrubbing. Once or twice a week. Expensive but you don’t need much.
Liz Earle Intensive Nourishing Treatment mask, also once or twice a week or when skin is feeling dry.
For everyday, the best moisturiser for me in winter, by a mile, is Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance. It’s expensive though, and I can’t always afford it!
If I don’t have February skin, I use Neal’s Yard wild rose beauty balm as a moisturiser at night, and Almond moisturiser in the morning.
I also find that using a creamy wipe-off cleanser helps, and that old chestnut: drinking lots of water.

DiamondMine · 23/10/2018 11:32

I had this issue and bought Euricin 10% cream (found even the 5% didn’t cut it with mine!) and that’s sorted it out, you can get it in boots too so readily available!

Isleepinahedgefund · 23/10/2018 23:14

Rosehip oil (the ordinary)
Hemp face cream from body shop (I use it at night)
Vitamin E dry skin version from body shop (this is as good as the moisture surge from Clinique, and is cruelty free)
A gentle toner (I've got the sensitive one from m&s for about £3)

To exfoliate I use the Clinique step 2 toner in the dry skin version. It's really gentle, better than mechanical scrub ones.

fluffycatinahat · 23/10/2018 23:19

Have you got hard water? Ours is terrible for causing eczema etc

amandadecabernet · 24/10/2018 00:38

Op I wonder if you might have psoriasis. It's often symmetrical like that, and dry facial skin isn't usually sore if it's just dry. I'd try a tiny bit of otc cortisone cream on it to see if that helps. No exfoliation.
Is it in the nose fold or on the face on either side? You can get a little fungus in the fold of skin which can be a bit sore and flaky. Canestan (or try apple cider vinegar if you can bear it) might help.

BeautifulComicalThings · 24/10/2018 00:43

I've suffered with excema for years and have had terribly dry, flaky skin on my face every winter for a while! I've tried lots of (expensive) moisturisers but I've found that La Roche Posay Cicaplast has been the best, and its only £6.50 ish. I also like the Vichy Quenching Mineral Mask for extra moisture. Lush Ultrabland is also an excellent cleanser for dry skin. It does leave a slightly greasy layer but I've found that quite helpful when my skin has been really dry

LikeCherOnlyTiny · 24/10/2018 00:45

Coconut oil can dry out your skin so consider changing your cleansing routine.

Try Lue Hyaluronic Serum (available from Content Beauty online). It’s a very simple, very effective cruelty free serum.
