Does anyone else moult in the autumn?

Slightly odd question but I've noticed for the last few years that I lose quite a lot of hair in the autumn. Which also means at this time of year, every year, I think about cutting it all off (it's bra- length). I am yet again contemplating a radical cut (though know I won't as I can't bear not being able to tie it back). Is this just me? Or am I part hibernating squirrel (or similar)?

Yep. Autumn and Spring (to a lesser extent) like clockwork.

bluesinglalune · 21/10/2018 22:07

I've been meaning to start a thread on this exact thing. My hair is falling out to a ridiculous degree. I was starting to get a bit paranoid so it's reassuring that I'm not alone.

My old hairdresser called it “ blackberry season” & it’s normal to lose hair this time of year. I can blame the dreaded menopause as well though 😞

cleanhousewastedlife · 21/10/2018 22:41

So it's not just me then? I'm really glad I asked because I was beginning to feel quite freakish! It's interesting to know it's a 'thing'. What do you do about it, if anything?

Oh, and does anyone know WHY this happens?

That's so strange but I think mine is doing this now. I've never noticed in previous years but the last week or so I've lost loads, it's everywhere!

LittleWingSoul · 21/10/2018 22:51

Mine has been falling out too, sadly though, not from my chin, moustache, bikini or legs Grin

Is it because in the summer hair grows thicker and fuller with the sun? Scientific.

Helpmemyhairisterrible · 21/10/2018 22:53

Mine is terrible just now. You've given me hope that it's seasonal and not because I'm no longer pregnant and been colouring it!

Always for me! Hair loss can be a sign of thyroid issues. If you've got any other symptoms then in might be worth getting a blood test

Talisin · 21/10/2018 23:05

Well we’re mammals after all - we’re just shedding our summer pelts for the winter ones.

averageisgood · 22/10/2018 03:28

I've just come through the worst of it. Even my children complained about my hair being everywhere this year. And I mean all over the place. If I so much s turned my head, a hair fell out. It's finally stopped

Amrapaali · 22/10/2018 07:24

Yep definitely me both Autumn and Summer Confused

Now my 12 year old has started as well this year. She was freaked out by it all and convinced she would go bald overnight. Had to talk her down with season charts and temperature changes Grin

mammmamia · 22/10/2018 09:33

I have been wondering about this as this has happened to me around summer time twice now. Once about years ago and once this year. Both times started in May and stopped once summer was over.

Can it happen in summer as well?
The minute the weather started to cool my hair went back to normal.

thedevilinablackdress · 22/10/2018 09:38

Aaah!
Thank you.
Had been looking at the plughole cover thingy with some anxiety the last few weeks!!

DisMember · 22/10/2018 09:42

TMI but I tend to have a pube itch/fallout in November also Blush

cleanhousewastedlife · 22/10/2018 20:11

Hmmm luckily just head hair so far! Aren't we strange creatures. Thank you for sharing though, it's reassuring to know it's not just me.
