38 and giant spots

Every few months I seem to get a giant spot that takes AGES to go away! I am 38, why is this happening to me?!

I'm wondering if I need to change my cleanser. At the moment I am using Botanics hot cloth cleanser and it leaves my face feeling quite greasy.

Can anyone recommend some good products that don't cost the earth?

Cetaphil cleanser got rid of my spots. I used to get huge painful ones on my chin and forehead.

Thank you, I'll take a look in boots tomorrow!

I'm the same- cystic acne on my chin and jaw line plus sometimes on my forehead which would take ages to clear up just to come back again the next month 😡 Started taking EPO and vitamin A and it works wonders

Thanks I will investigate.

I always seem to get them on my forehead - one or two giant spots that take weeks and weeks to go.

I think I am generally run down as I have also had 3 coldsores in 6 weeks. Feeling a bit sorry for myself, I think I need a pamper!

It sounds like it's hormones. I've found that taking ashwaganda regularly had helped balance my hormones. I rarely get big spots now even around my period when I suffered with them for years (still get one or two little ones that are easily disguised). Bonus is, it's helped with my period too in that they are so much lighter and don't last as long

I was getting awful cystic acne on my chin and jaw line. I ended up on metformin for PCOS and it's completely gone, but aside from that nothing topical helped me at all, drinking 2.5-3l of fluid a day helped it a bit. Even had cream from the GP which bleached clothing if you got it on it but that did nothing.

Ive recently found a combination which is working wonders on my skin, but it's taken ten years of trial and error.

I use the Biore charcoal cleanser in the shower, and once or twice a week when I'm feeling dry I follow that with the body shop liquid peels. Currently using the vitamin c one.

After the shower, I then get four cotton pads, and use the simple micellar cleanser to remove any residue from the Biore, followed by the clean and clear deep cleansing lotion, then pure witchhazel, then the body shop tea tree toner. I wait about five minutes between each one to let them work. They are all liquids in bottles so I keep them by my bed and do it while watching tv. Then if I'm really dry I use the simple light moisturiser, but not every day as anything left on my skin causes breakouts. So much improvement and even hormonal breakouts are better.

Also, my wife always used to get horrendous coldsores, every time she was sick or stressed, around her mouth and in her nose and ears, about 2-3 times a month. I encouraged her to go to the doctor who prescribed acyclovir (sp?) suppression therapy, she's had two in the last year, both tiny and dried up really quickly, and only when she's been sick. Otherwise nothing, which is also a big improvement. May be worth asking about if you get them regularly. Or you can order them from superdrug online pharmacy.

This is definitely not going to be what I'd have wanted to hear a couple of years ago when this happened to me but: it's hormones. The only way I managed to get rid was sompletely cutrting out refined sugar for 8 weeks and then my skin was fricking amazing! It was glossy again, less dry, less 'crunchy' feeling, no big hormonal spots (too much sugar whacks your hormone production. I don't know why this is. I'm qualified in no way to offer any guidance :-) )
After the sugar free hell, I slowly reintroduced a reasonable amount of sugar (bread, the odd biccy) - no probs. Whenever I fall off the wagon and return to a life of white bread and jam with a biscuit packet main, it all goes to this cystic acne shite again.
No product made an ounce of difference to me - hopefully it'll be a miracle in a jar for you because that sounds much nicer!
Good luck friend - fight the good fight!

If it helps, my skin was totally acne free my whole life apart from at 21-23 when I was eating total shit, then gave me a break until I was 38-39. It's very mediocre now, but not particularly spotty. Prone to dryness.

Thanks all. Yes I did think it could be diet, but Ive actually been eating better in the last few months than I have in the last few years! And drinking a lot less! Oh well. I shall invest in a good concealer I think! 😂

Wash your chin with hibiscrub. Worked for me.
