Gap - is this the dullest shop in town?

I used to buy lots from Gap - but have bought almost nothing for the last 2 or 3 years. This summer there is almost NO COLOUR AT ALL in their shops. Whilst I like baby gap, I think gap kids is rubbish and don't buy from them either.

What does everyone else think?

The company has not been doing well for a while - I think the designers aren't up to much, but I just read that their target customer is age 24 to 34, so I am now too old - is it just my age that mens I don't appreciate this store that I used to love?

Absolutely agree - have loads of old Gap favourites but it is soooo boring now(although I did pick up one of their Roland Mouret dresses last year)

Desiderata · 15/06/2007 17:57

I'm with you there, dalek. It's a dreary store, alright; probably the dullest on the High Street.

That said, my dh got some great polo shirts in there the other day, but the womens and children's section was completely uninspiring.

And I have never understood their sizing.

NoodleStroodle · 15/06/2007 17:58

There seems to be a lot of grey and beige and beige and beige

Smurfgirl · 15/06/2007 17:59

I don't see the appeal of gap at all - so boring and old fashioned. Yawn.

i am 22 so v.near their target market, i hope i don't have to spend a decade looking so yawn!

Boredveryverybored · 15/06/2007 18:00

I go to gap kids for basics for dd tshirts etc. Theres never anything else in there that I would want to buy, agree about complete dullness.

actually i think next is the dullest shop in town. i returned some bizarre presents from mil this year and nearly had a nervous breakdown trying to spend the credit note.

gap is dull, but that is the appeal. you go in to buy your dull basics.

Tutter · 15/06/2007 18:08

i like their trousers for ds as they're adjustable and well made

and always get their kids socks

good for t-shirts and occasionally they surprise me with a nife silk shirt or something, but no, not my favourite place to shop

Tutter · 15/06/2007 18:08

nice

Desiderata · 15/06/2007 18:20

I agree with that, chevre. Dull basics - but well made and eternally washable - GAP.

Dull, dull, dull - NEXT. (and it always was)

CuttingCod · 16/06/2007 09:16

i loev ti but went int here loookign fo khaki capris
ioh no ALL GREY LINEN and crap quality at that

CuttingCod · 16/06/2007 09:16

smurfy you are too yong fo gap
their accessories are fab

BishyBarneyBee · 16/06/2007 09:26

often see mothers head to toe in gap and it looks shite and completely unoriginal- at times a group of them all merged into one khaki mass. Okay for the odd basic or occasionally you get a good find but usually it is a sea of grey and beige.

i never see anything i like for me there

some of the baby/toddler clothes and utterly adorable (but often ridiculously overpriced IMO)

pollyanna · 16/06/2007 10:02

I used to buy alot of my every day stuff from there, but haven't got anything since last summer I think. I don't even get my jeans from there anymore (much prefer French Connection). I haven't bought anything for the dcs from Gap for ages, although the jeans fit ds well (he is very skinny), but then again, so do H&M jeans which are much cheaper.

Pinkchampagne · 16/06/2007 10:04

I never find much for myself in there, although my sister swears by their jeans.

Baby Gap has some lovely bits & I have bought lots from there, but agree that the older kids section is a bit dull.

Pinkchampagne · 16/06/2007 10:06

I buy most of my jeans from French Connection too, pollyanna. I find they fit really well.

filthymindedvixen · 16/06/2007 10:10

tht's odd that their target audience is 24-34. The only people I know who wear head to toe gap are all the 30-something mummies in our playground. And at the older end of 30something to boot. I buy the very odd bit from them in the sales (long sleeved white ts, vest tops etc ) but I find their stuff dull as ditchwater. I associate it with wanting to blend in and be bland. I would never have worn it in my 20s because if you can't be colourful and experiemtnal in your 20s......

LaCerbiatta · 16/06/2007 10:58

It's my favourite shop: best jeans, t-shirts, trousers and some jumpers. But i'm a very dull person (when it comes to clothes anyway... I hope)
