Seborrheic Dermatitis and dd

My 12 year old dd had awful cradle cap as a baby. Recently it has returned along with dry spotty skin around her nose and her chin. At first I thought the spots were mild acne and she has been using acne face wash etc which helps but still gets the crusty skin especially under her nose. After reading something on MN last night it has suddenly occurred to me she has Seborrheic Dermatitis. I would be so grateful to anyone who has any advice on what I should be doing to treat this. She gets a terribly itchy scalp.

My husband has the same thing and a GP advised him to wash the affected areas of his face (and hair if needed) with Nizoral antifungal shampoo once or twice a week. It's cleared his up.

I’ve been battling this for years. At the moment what’s working for me is a brand called Moo Goo. I’m using the milk wash face wash. They actually have a cream called scalp cream specifically for this (it can be used on the face) but I actually prefer the irritable skin balm.

Nizoral shampoo. I am tempted to say tea tree cream too but not sure if it is too harsh for young skin.

OP I have this right now, my GP prescribed fusidic acid cream to be applied 4 times a day and dandrazol shampoo to be used twice a week. The shampoo is definitely helping my scalp but I’m not seeing much difference in my chin/mouth. Only been using a week though.

Ah it’s horrible - I developed it at about age 12 too. My scalp both itches and has the sores. Generally once it’s under control, stay away from perfumed hair products.

Mine definitely seems to be linked to stress.

For the acne, the doctor prescribed a topical antibiotic and that was the thing that worked best. The acne treatments generally overdried my skin

Please be careful with all the harsh tar shampoos etc that GPs like to prescribe. I saw a Dermatologist for seborrhoeic and peri oral dermatitis (face and scalp) . He prescribed Dermax shampoo (available behind the pharmacy counter for approx £10), Lymocycline antibiotics, and recommended washing and moisturising my face with Dermol 500 lotion (available behind the pharmacy counter and costs approx £12 for a v good sized pump bottle). I also have my own separate face towel.

Thanks curbside that’s good to know.

Thanks so much. I have ordered some nizoral shampoo to try first but will book her in to see the GP if no success. Feel quite hopeful though. Will report back.
