Interview on a budget

I have an interview tomorrow (my first in about 10 years since I was a teenager so fashion has changed! I have no idea what to wear so hoping I will get some good advice here I will list some things I think will help -

Supermarket interview it's only for Xmas temp
I'm mid to late 20s
5ft6 size 14
I carry all my weight on my hips so prefer clothing that hides them. Love a peplum top for this
I have a low budget (unemployed single parent of 2). My mum is buying my outfit so I don't want to spend too much, no designer or expensive items.

I was planning on wearing shoes I already have. Black ankle boots with a chunky heel would these be ok? If so preferably something that would go with them perhaps a dress of some sort with black tights.

I lurk around style & beauty often and am always amazed by the help given hopefully someone can help me as I'm hopeless Grin

Oh and also a website with next day delivery would be a bonus!

OK not a peplum in sight but smart black trousers and a loose fitting top are perfectly acceptable interview wear I think.

Thank you Rather I have just been into town and bought exactly that. Similar trousers with a loose fitting blouse/top and a pair of flats. It sounds stupid but I was just not long out of school when I last went to an interview so back then I would wear black trousers and a shirt so just wasn't sure what was acceptable. The only jobs I've had I've never had to interview for I have got them through friends so am really overthinking this. I haven't worked properly since 2012 so desperate for this even thought it's temporary just to bring my CV a bit more up to date.

What I bought is almost identical to your links so I feel a bit more confident about my choice. Didn't want to go to formal as it's only for a supermarket but didn't want to be underdressed I think I've got it just right.

For an interview I had at Tesco once I remember I wore clothes I already had.

Black knee high boots, a black pencil skirt & a smart jumper.

I wore my hair in a bun as I didn't have time to dry it properly!
Anyway, I got the job. But I work as an HCA now.

Good luck with the interview, your outfit sounds fine.

lornathewizzard · 17/10/2018 17:17

Good luck OP! I had an interview with Tesco last week, they asked a few of those 'describe the last time you worked hard to meet a goal' , describe a time you didn't get on with a colleague ', won round a hard customer etc.

I'd like to tell you how to answer them but I didn't get the job! Blush I'm sure you'll do better than me. Grin

PivotPivotPIVOTTT · 17/10/2018 19:15

Thank you tierraJ I think I might wear my hair in a bun as it's needing a good cut.

Lorna I've been told to expect similar types of questions. I will have to think up some answers to these tonight as if I was asked that first one with no prior warning I would be stumped. Thanks for the heads up!

Thank you both for the good luck wishes.

Don't worry if they ask you questions that stump you a bit - be honest - maybe ask for a minute to think about it, ask for a bit more clarification if you're not sure what they are getting at. An interviewer would rather someone was honest and upfront if they are struggling to answer a question, than be met with a lot of waffle and obvious bullsh*t!

For that kind of retail position I imagine they are looking for someone who is a good team worker, can get on with everyone, can handle customers and work hard!

Hope it goes well!!

Rather Thank you for the advice I've only just saw your post. As it turns out I done exactly as you said so a feel a bit better about having done that now. The woman interviewing was very relaxed and easy to get on with. I was honest with her explained I hadn't had an interview for a long time and she told me that she feels the same way about interviews and struggles herself. I think it went rather well but I found out it's only 15 hours which isnt going to be any use to me but I'm glad of the experience and it gives me an idea of what to expect for future interviews and I will be able to prepare a lot better.
