I've been looking at some coats online at Massimo Dutti. They're around £250 which is definitely the upper end of my budget. I've never bought anything from the brand before, so was wondering what others think about their quality and value for money. Ta

Have only ever bought tops from there, but good quality and have lasted.

DH has a couple of suits from there and has had them for about four years now. Again, both have held up well to being worn on rotation.

The sales are normally pretty good, they make decent reductions and don’t bring out old stock.

I have been a fan for years and currently have a few trousers, shirts and jersey tops from them, they are good quality and have lasted well. I hate their habit of putting dry clean only labels on things that should be fine in the washing machine

I am going to disagree with the comments about the quality of their clothes and say that I find them poor. They are so much pricier than Zara and while there is a difference in quality, it is nowhere near a big enough difference to justify the price increase. The main problem I have is that their clothes crease so much. They are perfect in the shop and until they are washed for the first time and after one wash, they look like they are old.

I recently spoke to one of the shop assistants about one top that I liked (but was concerned about the material) and she told me that a lot of people had returned it for that reason.

Their customer service is poor. Last year after spending £50 (in the sale) on a knit top, I noticed it had pulled threads. I wrote to them enclosing photographs, and they seemed to have to discuss at length, what they should do. They eventually replied that they would offer me a refund but I wanted an exchange which they refused to do. I can't see any reason for this other than being awkward.

I don't think I'd have even bothered mailing them about the top except I was a bit fed up of the overall poor quality of some of the things I had bought.

Their footwear is also on a par with Zara in how uncomfortable they are to wear! But again they look great and I am unfailingly stopped by people in the street when I wear one pair in particular. They are now about two years old but very rarely worn so look new.

I have bought from them for many years and still do buy from them because they tend to stock colours that suit my hair and skintone but I don't buy as much as I once did and I am a lot choosier about what I buy there.

I haven't bought a coat there and I think each garment should be assessed on a case by case basis as it cannot be said that the quality is good overall.

I’ve found the quality generally poor - trousers that shrunk dramatically on the first wash, peeling leather on shoes. I have had a couple of blazers, all of which have been really good.

I've got a beautiful huge red pashmina, bought in a charity shop for £2. Would love to know what it would've cost. It's lovely!

They look good but their silk shirts fell apartSad

Jackietheduck · 14/10/2018 12:00

Yes their shirts are particularly poor. Their linen tops are very poor too.

However they are masters at styling on their website. Everything looks amazing. Absolute masters.

Lottapianos · 14/10/2018 12:22

Oh dear, doesn't sound great. Think I will give it a miss. Thanks everyone

The clothes look great in store too.
Classy chic.
By I think form over function.
A bit like their sister company Zara.
I've only bought blouses / shirts in Massimo- I can't comment on trousers, coats, jackets, dresses or skirts.

A mixed bag in my experience. I find it is a great place for blazers - good quality and value (especially at sale price). I've also got a nice quality polo neck from there and some fantastic (and comfy!) leather boots. Blouses and stuff like that can be more hit and miss. I recently bought some cigarette trousers and the size was way smaller than the stated measurements and fabric quality wasn't fantastic.

They have a really nice aesthetic, though - and can look more expensive than the price point.

nooddsocksforme · 14/10/2018 17:44

I have bought coats and jackets from them and I would say the quality is good - way better than Zara. I agree the quality of knitwear and tops isn’t so great but coats are fine .

I have been happy for years with the quality and design, have some old shoes, bags and jackets; until recently (about 2-3 years), the quality of the material has decreased, and the designs became unflattering and uninteresting.
