I just took a babywipe to my new Gucci loafers (and took off a load of black shoe polish I assume 😱). Will have to reapply polish (any particular brand that I should get?) Can someone give me instructions on how I should care for this pair of ridiculously expensive shoes (have already scuffed them and dropped food on them so not going all that well tbh). Thank you!

You need a good black waxy polish, and give them a proper polish with brushes and a soft cloth.

I use Kiwi polish, you can get it in big supermarkets.

My advice is assuming that your shoes are leather. If nubuck, suede, textile - please ignore me!

Yes they are leather! Thank you for the advice. Browsing amazon now for a suitable kit. I've never polished a 'proper' shoe before so brushes etc are news to me!

If you’re going to have good leather shoes, you need to learn to look after them, and then actually do it. My dad used to make us clean our shoes every Sunday evening! I do the same with my dc.

Polish will keep themnourished, waterproof and supple, and cover up scuffs.

You Tube video - i’d skip the soap and water part unless they are very muddy. But to clean shoes, basically wipe them clean and let them air dry. Rub polish on with a soft cloth. Work it in with small circular - the heat from your fingers will help it absorb into the leather. Leave it for a few mins (ie, whilst you do the other one) then shine it up with a brush. You should be able to get a shoe shine kit in a big supermarkets.

Never ever dry leather shoes by direct heat. Stuff them with newspaper and leave to air dry.
