Can anyone recommend a rucksack that would work with office clothes?

I usually lug around my laptop and all other work-related stuff in an Phillip lim 3.1 bag. I love it but it's pretty heavy even without my laptop in and I'm sure it's not helping my posture at all. I'm therefore on the hunt for a rucksack to help my back. I'm looking for a black one that fits a standard laptop in. I will be travelling by foot between different offices in London so it would be great if it looked like a work one rather than a sporty/utility one as I'll be wearing fairly corporate clothes. Anyone got one that they'd recommend?

Knomo bags are good quality uk.knomo.com/collections/backpack-women I don't have one of their backpacks but have a cross body one and it's smart and well made.

Never buy a backpack aimed at women - and the shitty ones on that link near that out. Load s of useless extra weight, no hip belt, poor closures. ok for lipstick and a tampon but that is it.

Assuming you dont.want to be the most stylish person in the back clinic, go to an outdoor shop and buy something useful!

specialsubject · 13/10/2018 14:18

BEAR that out. This website is aimed at women and so is also shit.

That’s really helpful advice Specialsubject, given that’s exactly what the OP has specified she doesn’t want Hmm

@Lobster12345 I have a Fact + Fiction faux leather backpack which takes a Surface Pro (have also carried a full size laptop), gym kit and my lunch every day. It has a few useful zipped pockets on the outside, dedicated separate shoe storage compartment and isn’t hideously ugly Wink

The ZDTech Casual Vintage backpack is brilliant and only £20!

I bought one for dh last year and we now share it because it looks great, holds a ton of stuff, and is lightweight.

Look at Belkin. Professional and smart.

My DD is a barrister and uses a Wenger trolley bag. She has so much to take with her that her back would be bent double with a back pack. For a comfortable life, get a Wenger! Amazon have lots to choose from.

knomo or for less smart days Roka.

Nightmanagerfan · 13/10/2018 15:36

I use an Anello backpack that is great for a MacBook, lunch, water bottle, umbrella and various other bits of crap I invariably end up carrying around!

I have this and love it: arcteryx.com/gb/en/shop/blade-20-backpack
Would wholeheartedly recommend.

If you want a comfy supportive rucksack buy an osprey and then use a beautiful handbag.

bingohandjob · 13/10/2018 18:23

specialsubject, you seem really helpful and positive in answering the question. Good job. Well done.

Lobster12345 · 13/10/2018 18:49

Thanks everyone. I'll have a good look through all of the links. Thanks for your help

I have a Knomo backpack - carry Mac, powercables, empty waterbottle, notebook, paper and headphones. The rucksack itself doesn’t weight much and is the only office bag thing where the pockets actually work for me.

I also have an outdoor osprey rucksack for hiking which was properly fitted and used often.

Knomo works for me - I do find I adjust the straps each time which takes seconds, but it actually feels secure and fits my back really well and I get loads of compliments. Only issue is that if crammed full, the zips can slide apart - I just make sure they are at the bottom.

HermioneN · 13/10/2018 22:08

I bought a knomo for all the reasons you stated and love it.

Kanken

HLBug · 13/10/2018 22:13

I have a Matt & Nat one and it's brilliant. I'm genuinely so impressed with how well it's standing up to being bashed around. I also have a mini handbag in the same colour as the backpack and I tuck that inside then use it to pop out for lunch etc so as not to always have the carry the backpack around when I'm just nipping out.

WanderingTrolley1 · 13/10/2018 22:17

Samsonite or Hidesign.

TantricTwist · 14/10/2018 15:27

Just get a proper hiking backpack like Eurohike, your back will thank you for it.

specialsubject · 14/10/2018 17:13

Facts aren't rude, even on this board. Op said she wanted to help her back. silly bitch playground sarcasm doesn't change that.

Ok, wreck your backs, be the best dressed stupid in the pain clinic...remember how long the waiting lists are and don't whine about it.

I'd like to follow this thread but haven't used Mumsnet for about ten years and can't see how to "watch" even though I'm signed in!

NotMeNoNo · 15/10/2018 20:40

Most outdoor brands do a range of commuter backpacks in sober colours and not festooned with ice axe loops etc. Eg lowe alpine cloud 25. However in these days of health safety and well-being nobody will sneer at a person using a proper computer backpack even a woman.

Unfortunately most of the computer brands tend to be man sized ie heavy and far too long in the back for me.
