How to get teeth really really clean

AnotheBloodyChinHair · 13/10/2018 10:49

Usual brushing and flossing is just not cutting it anymore and I can see plaque settling in. Before it was on the inside of my teeth now it's also on the outside. Is this an age thing?? Hygienist appointment booked but until then, what can I do to get my teeth really really clean?

do you have an electric toothbrush? look on amazon for the fairywill one, its got good reviews and is supercheap at the moment. I have an expensive panasonic one and so did DH but when his packed up I got him one of these and he swears its better! both my Ds's have one and they love them.

You need to use interdental brushes, particularly the vision brushes which bend round your teeth. Also use mouthwash.

dental sticks are good.
brush your tongue.
Gargle thoroughly before and after brushing and flossing.

Electric toothbrush, followed by an air flosser (used with a mild mouthwash). My teeth are pretty crowded and I found that real floss wasn't getting into all the corners etc - the air flosser solves that. I've had no tartar build up for two years since I started to use one. They are expensive, I waited till the sales and got mine for half price.

On the mouthwash/rinsing front, my hygienist told me yesterday that it's far better to just spit out the toothpaste after brushing and then leave it. The toothpaste that remains in your mouth coating the teeth is much better protection than washing it away with mouthwash or plain water

I mouthwash first, get the chunky bits out (nuts, bits of toast etc), then I use Wisdom flexible interdental brushes. Then I brush without rinsing, I use a Philips sonicare (tried other electrics and gone back to sonicare, motion felt smoother & less clanky, quieter & teeth felt cleaner).

I do floss, then tepe brush, then mouthwash, then brush my teeth with an electric toothbrush. Once a week I use disclosing tablets. Agree with PP about not rinsing after brushing.

My dentist told me that I should brush for 4 minutes twice a day. I won’t lie - 4 mins feels like a bloody long time! But I think my teeth look whiter. And they definitely feel cleaner.

Philips Sonicare + Colgate Healthy Clean. I don't feel clean with other tooth pastes!

HRTpatch · 13/10/2018 22:52

I recently bought a water flosser and the difference in my teeth is amazing.
Both hygienist and dentist commented, and that was 2 months use.

Bloomcountry which air flossed do you have?

ChampagneSocialist1 · 13/10/2018 22:54

Air flosser

Bloomcounty · 15/10/2018 08:55

Philips sonic air

My dentist rates Oral-B electric toothbrushes higher than other brands. They're often (maybe always) on offer in Superdrug or Boots.

She reckons mouthwash doesn't do anything for a clean mouth.

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 15/10/2018 20:09

I use the Oral B on my dentist’s recommendation too, thatlibrary. I use mouthwash after interdental brushes to swill away any bits, but my dentist says the exact same, it’s just pure habit for me.

Bloomcounty · 17/10/2018 11:54

Yep, oral B electric toothbrush too - the one that uses the small round heads. The small head is pretty good at getting into all the small gaps, then the flossing finishes the job nicely.

BinkyandBunty · 17/10/2018 11:59

My water flosser has changed my life.

I also use an Oral B electric toothbrush.

Schnickers · 17/10/2018 12:01

Manual toothbrush, colgate. Occasionally manual floss. See a private hygienist twice a year. Nice white teeth.

SarahBeeney · 17/10/2018 12:01

Corsodyl Ultra Clean toothpaste is very good. It doesn't taste nice but teeth feel much cleaner after. It's £4 a tube but often on offer.
