Rescue treatment for dry hair needed

I have very fine but curly/frizzy hair and lots of it. It’s very long and I dye it regularly and at the moment it’s quite dry.
Can anyone recommend a product (diy preferably as I can’t afford a hairdresser visit at the moment) I can apply that would make it nice and soft/shiny again please?
I should add: My hair HATES coconut oil, and most other pure oil-based products I have used in the past. God knows how but they seeem to make it extra dry and frizzy, so definitely a no-no!

My hair is medium (rather than fine or thick) but I have LOTS of it and it's kinky and a little coarse and a little dry. Things that have changed my LIFE:-

Philip Kingsley's Elasticizer - once every 3 weeks
Pureology Hydrate Shampoo and Condition
Bumble & Bumble Invisible Oil Primer

None are cheap, but you need the tiniest amounts.

Thank you Pupsie, I have tried the elasticiser before and it also made my hair really frizzy! I think I just have really difficult hair. Thanks for the suggestions though.

Any other ideas that don’t involve oil products please?

Is it frizzy because of static? I had a big problem with frizz and static. It turned out that the formula of my hair colour had changed. Perhaps you should try another brand of colour. A semi will leave your hair in better condition than a permanent.

SummersB · 11/10/2018 06:58

Molton that’s a good point, it’s not static I’m sure but the formulas of my colour has definitely changed recently, so maybe that is why my hair is suddenly more dry? I have coloured my hair with the same brand for years and years with no real problem, it doesn’t usually get too dry because I use no heat on it at all, but it suddenly seems to be in terrible condition. I will try a different brand. Not sure if a semi permanent colour is strong enough to cover my greys.
Still thoug, I really feel like it needs a really good deep conditioning treatment to tame it and put some shine back into it!

Same problem hhere. I have to get the right shampoo and conditioner and keep it at shoulder length. I tend to find Loreal Elvive is good, Ogx and Ultimate Blends (the brown one) are too. I put products in my hair that are cream based and for curly hair - can't remember now but in Boots always near to Frizz Ease stuff but not actually Frizz Ease. The only Frizz Ease stuff that works for me is Secret Agent which you use after drying. It is the stuff I use all the time and even improves the effects of dodgy shampoos. Hairstyle wise I don't straighten my hair and on a normal rushed working day I shove it up in a velvet scrunchie bun style then hair spray it. It still shows textured hair but is contained.

I was going to come on and say that morroccanoil is a lifesaver for me (frizzy and thick long coloured hair) but you said you wanted no oil products. I have gone through loads of oil based products like Argan oil to no avail and when my hairdresser mentioned trying Morroccanoil I groaned and said I wasn't interested in it thinking she was trying to give me the old up sell. She gave me a trial size for free and I instantly fell in love with it and it's m desert island product.

Phillips Kingsley elasticiser did nothing for my hair which goes to show everyone is different!

Have you tried the range of Redken products? In particular Redken Extreme? They do a shampoo and conditioner and also a hair mask which is lovely and very effective for dry damaged hair that tends to frizz.

I use the Redken Extreme mask every now and again and I combine the Redken Anti Snap leave in treatment along with my morroccanoil.

Just to add

If you have got a bigger budget, you should try Kerastase Discipline range. Expensive but absolutely brilliant.

Jackshouse · 11/10/2018 07:37

Milk shake hair repair range. My hair dressers manger to save my hair which was snapping off with this.

You need to give your hair a break from straighteners for a while.

SummersB · 11/10/2018 07:45

Thank you for the suggestions.
I haven’t used Moroccan oil, how exactly do you use it TomHardyswife ? I might just give it a go.
Will have a good lock at al the products recommended as I’ve not tried any of them.
I love the kerastase products so might try their hair masque if I can find an offer on it.

Jackshouse I never straighten it, I don’t use heat on it at all.
