Doing my own wedding Make up

I am after recommendations for products, and maybe youtube or similar tutorials for bridal make up, I will be doing my own but my every day make up look just isn't what I want, I want to look like a really polished and lovely version of myself rather than the 5 minute every day routine I have normally.

Are there any holy grails for making it last all day? Would you recommend having a lash lift or something in advance?

i'll be doing my own hair too, but think I've found a style I like for that luckily.

I’m getting married at the end of the month & will be doing my own makeup too Smile I did have some theatrical makeup training a while back, so am not overly stressed about it.

Do consider booking a bridal session at a counter like Bobbi Brown, Charlotte Tilbury, MAC etc to get a feel for what you want. My Bobbi Brown session was free and MAC charge £50 redeemable against products.

Lisa Eldridge, Andrea Ali and Mary Greenwell are the best makeup artists to seek out on YouTube.

Bear in mind you’ll be photographed lots so you need to wear a little more makeup than you’re perhaps used to, with a little more definition around the eyes in particular.

Use a decent moisturiser and then a primer first of all - I like the Bobbi Brown Vitamin Enriched Skin Base which does both jobs & smells of Turkish Delight.

Try then using a foundation which is long lasting with a medium or full coverage - Bobbi Brown stick foundation is popular for brides, as is Kat Von D Lock It foundation and Estée Lauder Double Wear (go careful with the latter as it can ‘flash back’ in photos due to the SPF).

A long wearing full coverage concealer is super useful too, particularly under the eyes, round the nose and on any blemishes. I love Tarte Shape Tape but the Revolution concealer is a good dupe for a fraction of the price.

Eyeshadow primer (Nars or Urban Decay work best for me) will make your shadows last without fading or creasing. A gel eyeliner (Bobbi Brown or Maybelline are good) with a very fine brush works well for definition plus you’ll want waterproof mascara, just in case.

Don’t forget brows - if your brows are sparse, try using a powder eyeshadow and a damp eyeliner brush to draw in strokes to fill the gaps. MAC Omega eyeshadow is my perfect brow colour and I’m an auburny light brunette.

Nars powder blushes are super pigmented with decent wear time - you can apply with a duo fibre stippling brush for a lighter effect and build it up slowly.

You’ll want to powder to keep everything in place throughout the day - try Laura Mercury translucent powder which is super finely milled.

The final step is a good setting spray - Urban Decay or Skindinavia are ace; in fact, Skindinavia make a special bridal setting spray.

Good luck!

I agree with all the above especially with regards to putting a little more on, as looks better in photos. I hated the idea of having my make up done so I had an appointment at a MAC counter and spent about £150 on products. They were great, talked me through everything and wrote it all down for me as well. I learnt techniques I still use everyday! Did not feel they were pushy either, I didn't buy everything they suggested (was happy with my usual mascara for example) and that was totally fine.

I'd definitely book a Bobbi Brown bridal lesson. Before my wedding I had lessons at both Bobbi Brown and Mac. BB was the best.

I did mine. I booked in for a trial with a department store to see what I liked first. They were fab. Didn't try to sell me anything I didn't need.

Use a good primer, including one for your eyeshadow.

Don't forget setting powder would be my top tip and get a bridesmaid or your DM to hold onto your lipstick for top ups.

these are fantastic tips thank you. sadly my nearest BB counter is over an hour drive away but may purposely have a child free shopping trip and try it out, will give them a call and see if i can book something in!

I had bridal makeup artist and I hated it so locked myself in bathroom and redid it myself! Made me late for my own wedding.

Get your brows done professionally. It makes everything else look more styled

Channel cream foundation lasted all day for me. I used individual eyelash extensions and Bobbi brown eyeliner

Bobbi Brown makeup artist Hannah Martin did Eugenie's bridal makeup yesterday. She has her own YouTube channel and is very watchable.

I did my own and went for a Bobbi Brown lesson, which was fab. I used decent primer and a setting spray, which helped. My one tip is out a bit extra on than you would normally so it shows up in your photos

BarbedBloom · 13/10/2018 17:42

That should be put a bit extra on
