What cut do you have and how do you style it?
After years of long hair I had a bob which I liked but am growing out. It’s now shoulder length and I’m looking for inspiration.

I'd had some bad Brazilian blow-dries too years ago and thought they just didn't really work on my hair (thick, curly, loads of it). Was recently convinced to have a kerastraight and have also found it totally life-changing! Like being given the gift of time! Maybe the products are just better now but I'll be trotting off to have it done every 4 months or so now too for the forseeable.

i'm rocking Albert Einstein right now. trying the curly girl method, washing weekly, conditioning daily, and a curl enhancer
the ringlets at the front are fine but not developed elsewhere...
thinking of giving up and going back to short halle barre

ImNotonLinkedInNo · 10/10/2018 06:47

yes lots of thinning! or you look like a giant triangle. let them cut it wet and finish it dry.

I only wash mine with conditioner. Shampoo just wrecks it. I scrunch it with micro fibre towel ( tee shirt is better I think though) and it’s just long past my shoulders. I straighten / curl under a bit my fringe which makes me look a bit tidier and I maybe add some tidier loose ringlet type waves tound the sides too. I use a Tesco wand on both and it’s fab. Seems to add a bit of shine . Straighteners on fringe just is awful .too straight.

Shoulder length long layers. Straighteners and argan oil, and hope for no rain!
Would love to do something longer lasting/less time consuming. Kerastraight or Brazilian blowdry?

IntentsAndPorpoises · 10/10/2018 07:21

It's by L'Oréal, and I spelled it wrong X-tenso moisturist.

Slight hijack here but my hair is just like the OP - very thick, coarse, frizzy and wavy. Sometimes have nice curls but it’s usually just a mess. It’s very dry. I’ve tried just using conditioner and about a million different products but it always ends up really greasy. Do I just need to persevere?

can anyone recommend a London SE salon for straightening?

Sorry that’s supposed to be London or south east.

Could someone please recommend a good silicone free conditioner? Preferably not an expensive one, as I'd be using a lot of it!

My hair is a bit coarse, and strong and has a mind of it's own; neither curly nor straight. I have a LOT of it. I love bobs, but my hair grows out as long as down and it can look a bit triangular. It's just beyond my shoulders at the moment with some long, irregular layers, and more shaping at the front. I'm growing it.

For me, using the following products has changed my life and makes my hair/style so much more manageable:-

My hair is medium (rather than fine or thick) but I have LOTS of it and it's kinky and a little coarse and a little dry. Things that have changed my LIFE:-

Philip Kingsley's Elasticizer - once every 3 weeks
Pureology Hydrate Shampoo and Condition
Bumble & Bumble Invisible Oil Primer

None are cheap, but you need the tiniest amounts.

I get a 12 week blow dry and it tames my crazy, frizzy hair so well.

I started getting them every 12 weeks but then found i could leave it go to 5 months after a while. I find that the first 2 weeks after the treatment that my hair looks a little limp but gradually the volume returns.

My hair is in very good condition and very manageable. My salon uses Alfaparf products, if that makes any difference?

I really recommend that you give it another go, OP!

ViserionTheDragon · 10/10/2018 22:46

Another vote for Brazilian blow dry and a haircut with long layers. Go to Alterity Studio in London, they do a haircut and Brazilian blow dry for a very good price - I go there every three months and couldn't recommend anyone else.

LuggsaysNotaWomen · 10/10/2018 22:57

Another vote for the curly girl method. Not all products suit all hair so sometimes you need to experiment a bit.

It has taken the best part of a year to get my hair to consistently form into nice waves/spirals and the Albert Einstein look is virtually a thing of the past but it took quite a bit of trial and error.

My hair needs a good trim but at present is down past my bra and has some long layers at the front. I haven't had it long since I was in my teens but wish I had grown it out sooner as it stops the triangle head thing that I always had going on.

PickAChew · 10/10/2018 23:30

I'm growing it out after having it really short forever. It's getting through the awkward phase and beginning to look like a bob. It doesn't hold its style - I've come out of the hairdressers with it straight, on a damp day and it's been flicky by the time I've got home. It's only just getting to the point where I don't look rather unhinged if i let it curl, though. Like a PP, It's not that curly, but curly enough to cause trouble! It's only ear length but the curl is like this.

If you have thick coarse frizz prone hair..

See, I'd love to try the curly girl method as I do think that with time it would work with my hair. But I work full time and need to look professional and presentable every day. I just can't imagine how I'd manage the (possibly very long) transition period of trying to find products that work for me and getting to grips with the whole process. I wish I could take a couple of months off work and just get my hair sorted!!
